Microsoft Error

Ok well my computer runs sweet... But if I leave it on too long it usually pops up and says this:

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of somthing, the information you were working on might be lost.

Please tell Microsoft about this problem.

Then a bunch of crap.

I've tried formatting but it keeps coming up and when it does its not a regular error my internet justs stops working.... I run a bot at night and I can't have that happening on my 56k... So anyways anyone have any ideas? By not working I mean nothing responds and most of my programs freeze like Paint I was gonna take a SS but it froze.

How about some fill-in on this stuff:

[*]OS AND SECURITY
  • Operating System ???
  • Service Pack ???
  • Internet connection 56k, got it
  • Software firewall ???
  • Antivirus ???

Operating System Windows Xp Home Edition
Service Pack 1

Internet connection 56k, got it

Software firewall XP's standard

Antivirus None

Antivirus NONE? and running SP1? I can think of a thousand things you might be infected with that can cause that error.

For starters IMMEDIATELY enable the Windows XP Firewall. There's a couple of RPC service trojans that will cause that error and until you install the patches you're wide open unless you enable the firewall or you're behind a NAT router.

I'd suggest you do a thorough spyware scan. Go here for instructions: http://theflyingpenguin.com/spyware-removal.shtml

Then AT LEAST download and install Grisoft's free AVG Antivirus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

After installing AVG run a FULL virus scan in SAFE MODE.

Next you need to apply ALL the Windows Security updates and make sure the Windows firewall is enabled unless you're behind a NAT router (I would actually recommend installing SP2 first and then all the security updates).

Hope this helps...

I suspect a worm/virus situation. Try this 30-day trialware and set it up like that (the panels have changed a bit with their latest revision, so roll with the punches). Get it installed, get it configured, run a scan, leave the protection on and see if it intercepts Bad Stuff.

Also, order up a Service Pack 2 CD-ROM from Microsoft on this page or do an overnight Windows Update download to get your rig patched up. Run Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer to find other weaknesses.

I don't know what kind of "bot" you meant, is it IRC?
