Microsoft has finally confimed that Windows Vista Service Pack 1 beta will be released to a moderate size 10-15K audience in a few weeks. "We currently expect to deliver SP1 during the first quarter of 2008, but we will collect customer feedback from our upcoming beta process before setting a final date. Quality is our most important factor when determining availability."

What is in the Windows Vista Service Pack 1?
What improvements are there to reliability in SP1?
What languages will Windows Vista SP1 include?
What drivers are new in SP1?
How large will the Service Pack 1 be?

FULL REPORT

Hmm, I know they are adding drivers for new devices, but I wonder if they are going to update existing device drivers as well.

That service pack is reading like a joke.
Increase file transfer performance ?
WTF ?
They can't get file transfer to work at the same speed as XP ?
Sad
Really sad.

And they still are not addressing why vista has to slow down network traffic in order to play an mp3.

Will they fix a problem that my friend is having - he can only have 18 Internet Explorer windows open. Any more come up blank.

Actually, they say they're not including any new drivers.

I'm tempted to counter with "they can't get XP's security model up to Vista's level?"😀

Really sad, yep 😀

As far as I can tell from the article, it's a release of SP1 Beta to internal testers ONLY. They haven't been very vocal about it until the official announcement a few days ago. A more "public" and larger testing is supposed to be released soon. The "gold" or final SP1 won't be released until Q1 of 2008. This assumes of course whether MS will pull any trick --> releasing it sooner than expected (I can still hope, right?). Or "delayed" due to quality issues since they won't commit to a definite time frame.

I have Vista Business right now, and it works fine and dandy. Won't be booting into XP anytime soon.

I second this, I'm not sure even when the SP1 comes out I want to mess with Vista.

Oh I wish Linux, Or Macs would start becoming the King of Hill, I've been so sick of Windows for 10 years now.

So much BS.... 🙁
