Microsoft Bluetooth Keyboard stuff

Okay, so I bought the Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo back in the day. Problem is, the keyboard sucks. After rebooting, or not using the keyboard for a while, it goes inactive, and has to re-activate itself with the transceiver. Sometimes it comes back quickly, but more often than not I have to keep hammering on the keys for a good few minutes (sometimes it doesn't come back at all, but I average about 3 minutes). Is this a common problem? I want this stupid annoyance to disappear.
