Does anybody use Microsoft Backup? I've got a friend of a friend who uses it to backup a Windows 2000 server in a small office. He is complaining that after the first rotation of media it prompts him to overwrite the tape. He can't figure out how to turn it off. I have looked here at home in Win2k Pro and don't see any settings to turn that off.

Has anybody used Microsoft Backup? Do you know how to make it stop prompting?

Thanks.

start | run | cmd
compmgmt.msc

then go to Removale Storage | Media Pools | Backup | DLT
right click on the loaded tape and choose All Tasks | Deallocate

double check that it's Idle, Available in the Free | DLT Media Pool.

I have batch jobs which eject it and could refresh it but using the deallocate command
wipes out the possibity to recover the data and makes it that you have to 'Prepare' it again which sucks hard.
Oh well....linux tar backup with DLT is oh so much more simple.
