I will always use Google or another freelance search engine over anything MS spits out and expects us to use.... as if they don't control enough of every other market to need to dominate this one also. I can't even imagine the kind of censorship they would have placed on their "new and improved" search engine.

You'd have thought that Microsoft would've learned after doing the same exact thing with Hotmail.

Google is my go-to source for reference or information. The fact that you can't pay your way to the top of search outcomes is invaluable. I sincerely hope Microsoft doesn't get its hands on Google, that would be a disaster.

am i missing something? from reading the article, it seems that MS doesnt want to purchase Google, but rather make a search engine that functions better and is more used and more popular than Google.
Visse said the company was making some significant investments in developing a better search engine.

I am so far from anti-MS it's not even funny. I've even defended them on this board numerous times...but if they take control of Google that is a blow to the internet as a whole. Google is literally perfect the way it is. I don't want google turning into some useless crap like this. Google is a highly efficient search engine, and I bet MS wants to turn it into a money making "web portal" :disgust:

Even if this article didn't exist, it's still relevant discussion. MS wants to control the search engine market no doubt. Who wouldn't.

Yes, like you said, who wouldn't. Everyone knows that, so why the discussion. MS hasn't even mentioned any details of the search engine, and you are already bashing it.

That's how I read it too. Matter of fact I sent an email to support@microsoft.com a few months ago begging them to adopt the Google Engine for Site Searches at microsoft, and the defacto MSN Search as well. I told them it's pretty sad when I can use site: <search phrase> at google and get better results then I can using their numerous different searches including MSDN.

Let them compete all they want to. As long as they didn't buy google (not what the article implied)......google will remain the standard.

I swear that If M$ f%cks up Google like everything else, for me that will be the straw that breaks the camels back and I will convert to Linux for good and just learn to live with the limatations of Open Office.
