Okay so I plug in my microphone into my microphone jack and it doesn't work. I plug in a pair of headphones to the same jack and they work when I talk through the speakers. I'm almost poisitve I have all the right drivers and everything... any ideas??!?!?! Please its urgent!

Didn't see a sound card in your sig. Are you using onboard sound? Not sure how you can plug headphones into a jack and talk into it 😱 Are you sure you have the right jack? Try experimenting with the other jacks.

Sounds like the jacks are set up different then what is expected. Check sound card setings also to see if the ports are changable.

It would help if you can post what kind of sound card you have.

you can. a speaker is a microphone, but the microphone is amplified, or something...

It's the same thing, just a little different...I remember that from physics class

Yes.... it is the onboard KT333 Chipset's onboard sound. But you see the port's cannot be configured differently because the headphones work...

If your onboard sound is Cmedia, then you definitely should be able to connect a microphone to it. Just open the control panel and look for the option on how to enable the mic port.

are you sure the mic works ?? Test it on another PC first and make sure that it's a working mic.

If the headphones work as a mic in that jack, makes me think that your mic may be bad.

I second that - sounds like a dead mike to me, if your headphones work. I had a dead mike once out of a box as well - very annoying.

Yes I am positive they work and I am positive I have the ports configured right in the control panel... everything works on every other PC in the house... just doesn't work on any microphones. Only headphones :\
