Micron - Wintec? ripped off?

Hi all--

I bought what was advertised as "SDRAM PC133 128MB CAS2 (CL2), 168-PIN, GOLD CONTACTS (16X64 7ns) - Micron Technology"

After recieving and installing it, I got RAM info with Motherboard Monitor 5. Heres an excerpt from the result:

Manufacturer - Name: Wintec Industries
CAS Latencies Supported: 3

So.. doesn't look like Micron RAM.. sure as hell doesn't look like CAS2 RAM..

Am I missing something, or am I right in believing I got jacked?

why don't you look at the chips directly?
if it's micron, the marking is "MT......."

it could be micron chips, manufacturer writes its name into the spd,
those program tell the manufacturer name, cas setting from the spd.
they also tell the chip's number directly, you can check if it's "MT.......".

micron also makes pc133 cas3 ram chip.

micron only makes ram chips, sells them to memory manufacturers to make the memory modules using its ram chips.
crucial is a subdivision of micron that does the same thing. crucial price is just few bucks more than those so-called micron memory (should call them generic micron memory), I'd only buy from crucial.

Be very careful who you order from. Especially with Ram. Also read that microscopic print in the back of their site that they keep hidden about switching when out of stock and so on. I have gotten wrong ram several times.

The last time was from Components Direct http://www.componentsdirect.com/home.htm. They were advertising some quality ram and then sent me crap that would not even boot my os up. Took them over 2 months to get me a refund too. HIGHLY SUGGEST AVOIDING THESE SCAM ARTISTS!!!!

Yes I call them scam artists because they are the worst kind. The kind who tries to sneak something in every now and then.

When it comes to things like Ram, where by going generic you'd save roughly 10-15 bucks, it's just NOT worth it. I was supposed to get some pc133 stuff, but tests seem to think it's only going to run at 100 at cas3, so I was damn lucky it even ran at 133. It's pretty much worthless now and the two crucial sticks I have are flawless and I just picked up another.

Don't skimp on the stuff that gets the most stress in your system.
