The reason prices are so low is that SDR SDRAM is going to be worthless once DDR SDRAM becomes the standard.

dude, you are wrong, the reason ram price is so low now is simply b/c the supply and demand...it has nothing to do with ddr sdram...ddr sdram won't become main stream til at least 3rd quarter next year...

Did some reading and it does appear that Intel will be releasing a chipset for the P4 that will suport SDRAM, not expected till late 2nd or early 3rd quarter next year. Means that our SDRAM may not be worthless just yet.

I don't know what you guys are talking about.. it might be worthless to the p4 people but man I can';t wait until I can buy 2 gigs of SDRAM PC133 for like 500 dollars.. heheh maybe less by the rate the prices are dropping.

I hope you guys realise that at some point, depending on the size of the cache on your mother board, adding more ram will actually slow your computer down unless it is needed to keep from using virtual memory. If I remember right a 1mb cache is good to 256mb ram. I dunno, its something like that.

I already bought a stick of 256 PC133 ram from AccessMicro. At this time, I've only tested it on a BX mobo that limits it at 100mhz and it works fine.

The point is, I'll probably be picking up the MSI K7T Pro2a mobo later for a new computer. Should I buy another stick of 256 PC133 from AccessMicro or just go to a computer show? I've never been to a computer show before... and I'll probably have to wait till sometime in late December (after Xmas) to go to a computer show.

Will it be cheaper to just order some ram now from AccessMicro or wait till later to buy from a computer show? I'll be running WIN2k, so there should be benefits from the extra ram. And I'll be using some 3d software, cad stuff, so there will probably be use for all this ram. It costs less than $150 at AccessMicro by the way.

careful, the RAM they probably sell has MIcron chips on it, and not Micron PCB. I don't know much about the quality difference, but I can rest assured that the chips aren't as good if they aren't paired with the matching PCB

The only mobos people use nowadays with cache are Super 7 - all PII and above and all Athlons cache on cartridge or cache on die. Motherboards have certain limits on amount of ram that they can use, but putting more in will not slow a computer down - it will just be a waste of money.

Thanks for setting me strait, can't figure out whether to waste my money on some more or maybe MSI will come out with a Socket A motherboard for DDR and then I can "invest in DDR memory". Investing sounds so much better than wasting.
