I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but... I just bought some "Micron" RAM from a company off the net, but I think they sent me some generic crap. b4 I call and bitch a them, does anyone know how to tell if it's micron? The RAM says 'V-data'.

In case it's not clear, bonkers is saying is to look for "MT" at the beginning of the numbers on the chips.

Thanks ppl. I checked, and it don't say MT! Is there any chance it's still Micron? or did I just get shafted...

If it don't say MT, it ain't Micron...

P.S. Be sure to read the fine print when buying online... A lot of sites will say that if an item is "out of stock", or "unavailable", that they can substitute it with another "comparable" brand or product...

Are you looking at the PCB or the memory chips (the small black plastic things mounted on the PCB)? Micron memory has an MT in the part number on the memory chip. If you buy micron memory you aren't buying a Micron PCB unless you buy from crucial or buy crucial brand memory.

Go to Micron's web site and see if you can match the numbers on the chips with what you have!

Definition of Micron ram:
1. Micron chips on unknown pcb made by unknown manufacturer.
2. Micron chips on Micron pcb made by Micron - has MT sticker, you can find such ram in Dell computer.
3. above with additional CT sticker, selling by Crucial - Micron's direct sale division, added lifetime warranty to end-users.

<< Can't go wrong with Crucial....100% Micron.

Crucial uses Infineon (possibly other mfg's) chips on their 512MB PC2100 modules.
