MicroMV: Wave of the future? or Becoming Extinct?

I keep hearing about MicroMV technology and how it blows MiniDV away, but a Best Buy salesman told me today that MicroMV is going away. Is this true?

You mean Sony's MicroMV? It has been around for 2 years and I do not know of a single company that has licensed the technology. Who wants to pay Sony a royalty for every camera sold?

It will eventually go the way of other Sony technologies such as minidisc and betamax.

Sony's always trying to create these proprietary formats but they're never going to work because Sony doesn't have enough market power to make people adopt them.

I have heard rumours on DV boards that it is going away (but it has not yet). Some NLEs do not support it IIRC.

I meant DV board as in forum. But, what do you want to do and with what is the first question. If you have a DV camera, then all you need is Firewire. So, what do you want to do?
