microdvd probs (subtitles and crashes)

When I try to play a divx with microdvd (with certain movies) it plays for a few seconds but than you see 2 pics of the movie and the sound and subtitles continue but the movie crashes.
I read the faq at the site of microdvd but that doens't help.
And how the **** do you get the subtitles synchronous? The help at www.divx-digest.com is very vague and I don't understand it.
