I've seen it vary considerably based on brand. My recent experience has been that prices on Toshiba Drives between 1-4 TB track the best prices at the Egg, Amazon, and B&H pretty closely. YMMV.

new egg got 4790k for 250$ if you got amex card and does visa check out. and I get the benefit of not having to pay tax with newegg. maybe some of you guys don't have to pay tax with new egg too.

always look for deals in the 2 weeks leading up to BF and CM. never on those dates or after.

Just checked my email. I bought an i2500k w/Asus P67 motherboard in January 2011 for $310 total. Still in my machine now 5 years later at 4.4Ghz and I can't find a reason to upgrade. 5 years!

CPU's are all ridiculous deals now that they last forever. Whatever money we are losing on garbage GPU deals lately is made up on CPU's we never have to upgrade.

:thumbsup: And now if Intel gives us i7-6800K @ $389 and i7-6900K octa-core for $599, just imagine how long those CPUs will last? If Intel switches to the Tick (2015)-Tock (2016) -Tock (2017) model, then it's going to take 3 years just to get to the next new architecture (Icelake in 2018) and that one is lucky to have a 15% IPC over 2015 Skylake.

Luckily I am near a MC. I just picked one up. Really happy with it, got one of the better overclockers.

I don't think Microcenter is quite as good now as a few years ago on processor pricing, but really you couldn't get it anywhere cheaper so they could really only get worse.

It might not be as good as before but compared to prices for the rest of the world....

i7 4790K is not old junk though. i7-6700K is barely better.

NCIX dropped the price by $100 CDN and hitting F5 shows they have 186 units left. That's pretty large overstock if you ask me. Artificially raising prices on Skylake while clearing old Haswell CPUs is probably a good idea since soon they won't have enough Haswell compatible motherboards which would make it pretty hard to sell those CPUs stand-alone.

I am quite tempted to pick up a 4790k/mobo to replace my current i2500k/mobo. I have 24GB of DDR3 I don't feel like replacing with DDR4 and the upgrade would probably cost less than 200 total.

But... i just don't really have any way of justifying it still.

I filled out an after sales service survey I got in email and gave them excellent marks. At the end in the comment box I asked how they could put it on sale for $260 and a few days later knock it down to $250. A few hours later I got an email and phone message saying they read my comment and credited my card for $10. I really like Micro center, their service is excellent, this isn't the only excellent after sales experiences I have had with them.

I bought my asus tablet from them and they had the lowest price of any vendor at that moment with the lowest shipping price for fedex so I can't complain about them. When they have something I want I don't hesitate to buy from them.

I got it for the $250 price last year, along with another $60-odd off on a motherboard. MC has this sale every year around this time, and it's definitely the best time and place to buy a CPU combo if you live near a store. I moved recently and am not that close anymore unfortunately.
