Microcenter and deals is an oxymoron. Not poking fun at you Mephistokur, but Microcenter.

It's like saying:

industrial park, open secret, sight unseen, loyal opposition,

idiot savant, light heavyweight, original copy, final draft,

random order, freezer burn, negative growth, standard deviation,

build-down, elevated subway, mobile home, benign neglect,

fresh frozen, deliberate speed, benevolent despot, recorded live,

one-man band, old boy, living end

There prices are near suggested retail, but sometimess they have a few good deals in the back page to lure new customers.
I've always appreciated the microcenter hot deal post because I don't go there often.

Why so much anger toward these guys? Theyve provided some good deals to many of us (and some insanely great open box deals to alot of people I know). Either you've got a really bad childhood memory associated with microcenter or you just had that list of oxymorons you really wanted to get out so you decided to pick on them with no real point. 😕

Edit
Forgot to mention that Microcenter has the best return policy around, has nice big advertisements with lots of pictures and again, some insane open box deals.

How can anyone forget that awesome Microcenter deal with an APC Back-UPS Pro 1100VA for only $149!!!!!!! Then PM'd to CrapUSA for a $50 rebate. A huge APC unit for about $100. That was the bomb.... at least for me.

What microcenter has good open box deals? Mine here (cincinnati) has CRAP for open box/return/etc deals. They'll do stuff like a $25 spindle of cdrs, opened and taped back shut, and mark it at 22. Or a obsolete whatever for 90% of the original price. Their racks are a joke and I usually don't even look at them anymore.

Otherwise, I like the store - got obscure stuff no one else would, and some good deals occasionally.

Cendyne 32x CD-RW 79.99 After 30 Instant 40MIR

Looks like a good deal, I will check it out tomorrow.

Thanks.🙂

i always stock up on their $5 50ft cat 5 cables when they go on sale. other than that, i like to browse thru the open box racks.

My girlfriend's looking to buy a CD burner. I personally recommend a Plextor but they're quite pricey. But I've heard that TDKs are rebadged Plextors...is that true? And is this TDK drive a good deal? (Remember that she's gonna be a college student next year so she's strapped for cash).

For my 10 years of shopping in local microcenter in Cleveland, I think I returned more items, than I bought 😉

Speaking seruosly, I love their return policy: never ask a question. Once I returned scanner I got over 50 days earlier.

Normally they sell overpriced items, but then you need something NOW - this is a place to go - they will have it.
Time to time you can catch a really good deal there, just read their 20 page ad.
I use to live accross a street of MC, but now it is 10 minute drive. It is nice to have it handy.

microcenter isnt that bad... got a $12 5port switch from them a few months back 🙂

but everytime i've been there, most if not all of their stuff was really expensive when compared to fry's.

The TDK 32X CDRW is a damn good deal. I recently paid $109 for a 24x TDK CDRW with a $50 MIR. I haven't received my rebate check yet, but its only been about 1 month since I sent it. I have had no problems with this CD burner, and have even been using it to burn my 12X Pioneer media at 24X with no coasters yet. yay!
