I am looking for a present for my dad, who does a lot of dictations. I was looking for the cheapest way to package voice recognition with a microcassette recorder, so that anything he dictates into the recorder can be transcribed into text on his computer. Either a built-in system or a software package would do. Any suggestions, experiences, opinions? Thanks.

Most of the voice recognition software requires you to train the software to your voice. That requires reading out lout to it for long periods of time.. What kind of dictations does your dad do? Mine does medical dictations and most of the recognition software will not spell the medical terms correctly.

Its a good idea, but i dont think the technology is there just yet.

BTW, my dad tried out Dragon Naturally Speaking. It came with a mic that hooked into the computer and the software made it work okay with MS Word.
