My contract with Verizon will run out in January. I'm currently using an iPhone 4s and recently bought an iPad 4th gen 128 GB on eBay. My question is can I pull the SIM card from the iPhone and use it in the iPad? According to the Apple website, they both use a micro SIM card.

IIRC, it depends on your provider. I believe some have iPad specific plans.

Thanks for your reply. Verizon is really difficult to talk to about this. The person in the chat room is clueless.

If they do IMEI sweeps on their network, they will detect that the SIM is on a device other than the iPhone 4S and ask you to update your plan accordingly. This isn't likely to happen however since the iPad plans are cheaper. IMEI sweeps are done to prevent the opposite, i.e. people using cheaper data-only plans in iPhones.
