this was almost 15 years ago, but it was the first thing we did in lab. Then we had to smear it on a petrie dish and culture it. I was discussing college classes with my coworkers just now

I was considering dropping the class the first day when i found out we had to do that. I didn't and followed everybody to the walk of shame to the bathroom and back.

would this sort of thing still be legal today?

You're lying imo. We just had to smear our cell phones. Most of the women that did it had fecal-smelling bacteria on their plates regardless.

I had to do this as well in micro 101, although i believe we dropped our contaminated Q-tips into a culture tube containing LB overnight... and then we streaked that pnto petri plates

there was this extremely cute girl in my class that I had the hots for... not my idea of a great way to stir the romances... "hey Cecilie, how are your ass cultures doing? check out the growth from my nasty Q-tip!"

Had to do it for micro lab about 3 years ago at UCI. Wasn't a big deal for anyone in my class from what I remember, but it could have been because everyone was gunning for med school.
