Looks like Micro Center is having their yearly sale on Monday 1/29/07 20% off all the PCI-e Video Cards,Cases, Power Supplies, I/O cards and Drive Enclosures. Also select motherboards from EVGA, MSI, ABIT, Gigabyte and ECS. plus the Intel 975BX2KR on sale for 175.99

Is this online or just in store?

Looking around and there's only a couple of deals that are any good as most of their cards are priced where the discount will just put it about in line with the price at say Newegg.

I notice there's a $30 MIR available for the eVGA 8800 GTS and GTX cards. That'd put them down to $314 and $490 plus shipping. Newegg is about $50 higher even after the rebates (Newegg has a $30 MIR as well).

Personally I wouldn't bite on $500 for the GTX but $320 for a GTS wouldn't be too bad.

Hmmm, I was going to pull the trigger on the eVGA 7900GS Newegg has, but if Microcenter is selling theirs for $169 before the $20 MiR (which is what it looks like on the website) and then take the extra 20%, it'll take the total down to around $140. Pretty slick deal in my opinion! I'll hold off til Monday. Rebate is good til March also, so plenty of time.

Your math is a little off. The sale supposedly starts tomorrow, but there's nothing about it online. Where exactly did you hear this?

If you are on their mailing list they send you the ads. I received the ad in yesterday's mail. (50% of the time the mail person doesn't get it to me before the sale period starts)

Nice! Not in the market for a new video card atm, but I do need a new case to rebuild my old PC. Need to resist the temptation to pick up a 2nd GTS though........

Raider1284, Micro Center can be thought of as an east-coast wannabe Frys. They have a lot of shady generic products, generally bad customer service (though YMMV), and their normal prices are pretty bad, but their deal of the week can be a hot deal.

I've been burned by their customer service such that I'll never shop there again, but that's just my personal opinion.

This deal may be dead before it even started then, according to that ad the 7600gt is $91.99 after 20% off and the MIR (reg. $139.99). It's listed on their site at $119.99, so those prices may already reflect the 20% off (or not quite, but close to it), making this not nearly as hot as we thought it'd be. Same story with the 7900gs that's listed $169.99 on-line but reg. $199.99 in the ad.

Currently the EVGA 7900GS KO is priced at 169.99 with a $20.00 rebate net 149.99 however the sale ends today 1/28/07 and it will go back to its regular retail price monday.

The EVGA 8800 GTX is currently $649.99 and on Monday with the 20% off it will be at $519.99. Not a shoddy price for a B&M store and it would be difficult to find it at BestBuy or Circuit City B & M store at that price.

Actually, I've found quite the opposite to be true. Granted, I've only shopped in three of their stores.....two in Atlanta, GA and the one in Northern VA, but have had great customer service, usually except when they're harried by a swamp of customers. Almost without exception, they've been glad to take product back without any restocking fee or service charges, will go look for product in the back if it's not on the shelf, and have actually had them carry junk out to my car.

The "shady" generics you speak of.......what are they? True, they do have their own house brand, PowerSpec. But much of the PowerSpec line is rebranded major name brand merchandise.

Take their Power Spec computer cases. Many of them are just rebadged Cooler Master cases.....and even come with CM instruction manuals and the cases are labeled Chassis by Cooler Master in small print. You get CM quality at a lower price. Good deal in my opinion.

And, yes, they have a brand called Inland. True, it's cheap, but you cannot slam a store for carrying a line of product cheap customers will buy. They stock what will sell......and they stock ATI, PC Power and Cooling, Silverstone, Seasonic, Lian Li, Asus, AMD, Intel, MSI, Gigabyte, eVGA, BFG, and on and on. So, slam them for carrying a cheapie line, but please forget they carry first line name brand componentry.....of course you would....that doesn't make yoru argument at all, does it?

And while it's true they carry some very generic stuff, like cases, so does Fry's and for the same or higher price.

I tend to find much at Fry's is a tad more expensive than Micro Center. Take the Radeon X1950Pro, 256MB PCI-e video card. MC's usual price is $249 but they consistently run a sale on it at $199. Fry's, on the other hand, lists the card at $299 and on sale comes down to $269, when they do it. Fry's also gives a big hassle PM'ing Micro Center, at least the two in Atlanta, despite the fact that both Fry's are very, very close to a corresponding Micro Center.

I actually get waited on in Micro Center......I almost have to beg for help in Fry's, even when the acne-cratered teenage boys that pass for sales help are going nothing but standing around the register/help counter bragging to each other how great their respective computer is.

Yes, I shop both Fry's and Micro Center, but unless Fry's has a huge sale on a product, MC usually gets my money. And right now I'm looking to purchase an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card......I got one given to me as a present, so I'm looking to buy another to Crossfire. Hey, Crossfired X1950 Pros for $200....can't beat that!!!

Tell me which I should buy (and I don't want a Sapphire or HIS!):

The ATI X1950 Pro for $279.........at Fry's

The ATI X1950 Pro for $199........at Micro Center

Now, it's true that MC's price is on sale, but it's marked down from $249, still $30 + tax lower than Fry's. And this is anything but an isolated incident........

Shop both, buy where it's better.....and MC is--a lot of the time.

Actually, on Monday the deal on the 7900GS KO gets better. It goes to $139.99 after $20 MIR.

For those who are inclined to get a ATI X1950 Pro, it is currently $199.99 at MC. BB has it for $299.99, so PM for 110% of the difference to make it $189.99 before tax. Newegg has the ATI for $229, so even with tax it's not a bad deal.

grrr. hopefully they will have this sale again few months down the line.

I need memory and cpus to drop in price before I build a new system.

The better part of this deal has always been the ability to pricematch with other stores who'll give you a 110% "best price" guarantee.

Don't expect them to make it easy for you, though.
