http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0376784

the april catalog reads on the top of page 2 that in store this comes to 99 AR

BASICALLY if you buy the fx4100 for 99 the mobo is free if you buy the fx6100 for 139 the mobo is free.

I just built an amd fx4100 with a different gigabyte board as a second pc.

this was for ht and i wanted it to be silent.

well I wish I had seen this i would have saved about 100 bucks.

How would the fx4100 fare in an htpc? Does it run hot @ stock voltage? Could it get by with passive cooling?

Might have to jump on this, was going to build an i7 machine. However, at this price I'm not sure I can justify the extra cost of CPU and Mobo... decisions decisions. I don't know much about the 6100, how good is it?

Meh, had to jump on this. Not nearly as powerful as the other options, but the cost savings are just too good to pass up and still a huge upgrade for me. Thanks!

sheesh... these deals are going to make me have to take a trip to a mc town... that's a hell of a base for $100... and you can get a 60gb agility3 on ne today for $55... and you can get 8gb of ddr3 as the prize in most boxes of cracker jacks these days...

All the AMD bundles are on this page-
http://www.microcenter.com/specials/promotions/AMDbundlePROMO.html

Lots of options, IMO the 960T is probably the best deal for a bargain priced setup, I'd spring some extra dough for the $129.99 bundle with the 970 Gigabyte board myself, although it's also available for $99. Or $10 more for the 1045T if you need 6 cores.

I'm feeling the itch to build yet another cheap box for bitcoin mining, but I'm not sure I have the power in my condo to support it... so I'm trying to resist.

So is somebody kind enough to get me the 960T with bundled mobo ($99.99) since we don't have an MC over here? I'll reimburse the shipping cost. Thank you.

Wow, the $130 bundle with the Gigabyte 970 mobo seems like a killer deal. Thanks OP!

For HTPC all the boards support some kind of pass thru digital audio, but only the 990 UD3 has dolby encoding to put more than stereo out a S/P dif type output. I don't have a system with HDMI digital audio input yet, so I have no idea what works with that. To get full multi channel audio playback on "files" like mkv I had to find an old Creative sound card with spdif optical output and licensed Dolby encoding. Most of the chip sets support the Dolby stuff, but MOST of them fail to license it so it is blocked and you get only pass thru or stereo.

For the final word on what works in HTPC I rely on avsforum.

Got it, thanks for the great info!

I just spent the last 3 hours watching sons of anarchy on netflix.

the amd fx4100 may not be so good for gaming but for a low cost htpc it does the job. Sound and picture were very good.

My passive fanless hd-6670 never cracked 40c

The fx 4100 never cracked 35c.

You can build a good quiet htpc for under 400.

amd fx4100 + mobo = 100

a small case = 40

a small ssd = 60

ram 8gb = 40

spring for a cooler master 212 evo = 35 or try the stock cooler for free

a sapphire passive gpu hd-6670 = 100 or go with the hd6450 below for 40

a decent psu = 75

this is 450.

you could use this gpu below

XFX Radeon HD 6450 - graphics card - Radeon HD 6450 - 1 GB

part number HD-645X-YNH2 cost is 40

that gets you to $390 for a very quiet htpc nice for streaming videos. if the stock cooler is good enough you are at $355.

and record to an extrenal hdd or nas.

Can someone link the $130 bundle with a 970 motherboard? All I see is $150 with the FX4100 or 960T. So between these 2 CPUs the 960T is generally regarded as faster (although the stock speed is slower)?

The 960T is faster (Thuban) than the FX4100.

960T also is unlocked and great for overclocking and a high chance to unlock to 6-Cores.

They did indeed go up. I just bought the Phenom II 960T + Gigabyte 970 mobo and the total was $160. Still a good deal, but obviously not as fresh as $130 :(.

Still a great deal as that same combo would cost you $234 on Newegg ;)
