I have an MS5169 (Rev 2) AL9 M/B bought thru an OEM Vendor. The OEM vender "used to" support driver & BIOS" updates but he will not now support my requests for info'. Bad news for me. What I am requesting is ANY info' on where to go to get the following:
*BIOS Flash Update for an American Megatrends 586@198 (1985-1995) Chip-Correct for the MS5169 MB.
*Driver Update for an ALI Busmaster IDE Controller (ACER Labs Inc); Hardware v. 193; Current Driver date 4-23-99.
Reason: I have tried to install a (first) HP CD-R/W drive & met with no sucess. HP finally gave up & indicated that I had to update my BIOS & B/M controller. They refunded my $$ when I returned my hardware. I discussed this with TDK & they thought the Mdl.241040A R/W drive would function properly. It did not & I am back to having to U-date the same items.
I was told by my OEM vendor that Micorstar was bought by "AnandTech" & that I should be able to download both items from them??(your Co.??) I can't find out if this is true or not, or at least I do not know where to go to do so. I do have d-loaded two potential bios updates (a5169ms31.exe, & a5169ms33.exe) but I am not certain that either one is proper for the ms5169 AL9 M/B. As for information from ACER, They do not seem to want to tell me anything for certain as they will only refer be back to my origional OEM vender.
Someone must have, by now, run into this problem & I would appreciate ANY help or direction in this matter.
