My gf recently went to a job fair for aspiring teachers and she said a lot of candidates were from Michigan. The job fair was in Houston TX.

Nothing like the state losing hundreds of thousands of jobs, people losing their homes, the state being in massive debt, yet the state spending more money by hiring 3000 people. Talk about stupid leadership. You are not going to spend/employ your state out of it's problems Jennifer.

Problem is, we don't have enough jobs for people with first world skill set. (See the oversupply we have of Ph.D. scientists, lawyers, MBAs, engineers, IT people, computer programmers, etc.)

YOu keep saying that, but that is far from the truth. Those that are college educated are doing quite well.

The ones who can find jobs in their fields are doing well. Many of the others are facing humiliating unemployment or underemployment, often involuntarily-out-of-field, and have crushing student loan debt. I have first-hand knowledge of the science and legal job markets and I'm pretty sure that my impression of the other fields, especially computer programming and IT, is also accurate based on what I have read over the years. The only field where there might not be an oversupply is engineering but there are also stories out there about how engineers are having difficulty.
