I don't get what the big deal is. That same phrase is on our money, and that's definitely more seen than a state license plate.

Right it was put on our money in that disgraceful year of 1861 when the civil war broke out marking the beginning of the end of slavery in this country. What a disgraceful thing and to think of all those disgraceful men that died in the civil war.

damn you edited as i was coming after you crap. My timing sucks. ;)

Actually though the term separation of church and State does not appear in the constitution. all that appears in the constitution concerning this is ?Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...? That is all the constitution says. All the rest is simply someones opinion.

I was under the impression that Separation of church and state means that The State shall not deem any one religion right or wrong (too late for that). Ohh hell The church is one thing and the state is another and never should the two meet.

once upon a time (and still present in some locations), there were things like state mandated taxes for religious institutions along with laws dictating the allowance or prohibition of religious services. That is what the men of '76 sought to stop. The abomination we live with today is the result of too many people with too much money and more arrogance than intelligence.

But it's kind of dumb to have it on the currency. If you're not a theist, it is silly. If you're a theist and don't worship Yama then it is likely to be blasphemous to degrade your god by putting it on the money. When the Fed allows the dollar to go in the toilet, as we are seeing today, is it also debasing God?

Back in the days of the Roman Empire it was common for emperors to be worshipped as gods, and their images were all over Roman money, yet Jesus said "give to ceasar what is ceasar's, and give to God what is God's" and left it at that. If Christians can put up with it, so should everyone else, what goes around comes around.

Separation of religion and the secular government isn't just opinion. It's NECESSARY for a free society. Thomas Jefferson (wall of separation...) knew this, but it seems to be lost on a lot of people nowadays. It's like the right to bear arms. Just because the majority of people don't believe in it, doesn't mean it should be abolished.

Separation of church and state may not be literally written in the constitution in your opinion, but that is beside the point. Any combination of church and state is wrong and in opposition to liberty. Of course fundies can't see that. Their dream is a theocratic monarchy headed by a preacher-king. The Enlightment was more enlightened than current society, 200 years later. :(
