This should come as no surprise to literally no one...

LANSING — Worried about having a proposal on the November ballot that would legalize recreational use of marijuana, Republicans in the state Senate are working on a plan to vote on the citizen petition and tie it to a cut in the state income tax.

Keeping the initiative off the November ballot would be a plus for Republicans because the measure is expected to drive up voter turnout, especially among young voters, which could fuel a blue wave that could flip the Republican majority in the House to Democrats and significantly narrow the 27-10 GOP majority in the Senate.

Again live births assure these petty attempts to try and hold onto their power are dwindling off to their last threads... Not even being creative any more. They have entered the desperation phase.

I have a few conservative family members who do not now nor will ever support the evil MJ and said they will not support any candidate with an R in front of their name that signs off on this. What say you?

I thought it was lazy liberal pot heads who don't make it to the polls? What's got them so worried?

It isn't like Michigan needs additional money to pay for schools or fix the damn roads or anything....

This seems a little odd to me. I would assume they could just get the Federal Court system to block the ballot measure like in 2016 when it was supposed to be on the ballot. Proposals expanding the Medical MJ haven't caused a "Blue Wave" in the past despite those making it essentially legal in many areas of MI. To me it seems like more of a fear of people voting against Trump but not being able to easily come out but maybe I'm wrong.

Funding levels for the schools is not the problem. Unequal distribution of money is since much of it has been tied to property taxes for decades . You have schools flush with money and resources immediately adjacent to the poorest districts

or clean running water. It's austerity that put Flint in their predicament in the first place.

Tying two unrelated things together for political reasons is a time honored tradition used by all legislatures so I'm unsure why this is newsworthy. Neither side should expect the other to structure ballots to maximize the chances for their opponents. Ideally every measure should be voted on for its individual merits but it seldom happens that way.

Silly Republican vermin. It's not pot that's going to turn young people out in November, it's voting your corrupt asses out.
