Michelle Wie to try to qualify for men's US Open

Exactly who's time is she wasting? Nobody's forcing the media to cover her...if she wants to try, as futile as it might be right now, she can try as many times as she wants.

Can't blame her for trying, but I agree with the people who say she should try to actually win a WOMEN'S tournament before she tries to qualify for the hardest tournament on the face of the earth.

She really hasn't even been a factor on the women's tour, much less on the men's. She's basically a freak of nature that can crush the ball.

If a woman tries to break into a "men only" association, she's "fighting oppression".

If a man tries to break into a "women only" association, he's "oppressing women".

Can't really win there...

The USGA said on its website that it as accepted 8,584 entries for the Open, third-most in history. The record is 9,048 entries for the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst. To enter, players must have a handicap index of 1.4 or less, or be a professional.

Sounds like a lot of people who have no shot at winning are trying to get in.

Allowing women to play in the men's league/association and not allowing men to play in the women's league only perpetuates the stereotype that women are weak and subordinate to men. Keep them separate or allow both.

*sigh*... when you accept that men are better than women at most or all sports due to significant physical differences, it should be obvious why it works one way and not the other. It's not about sexism, it's about reality. It's the same reason a 16 year old kid can't play on a U-14 soccer team - because his age gives him an advantage. If we let men into the women's leagues, there could be no women's leagues because they would all be dominated by men. The WNBA would become a ghetto "minor" basketball league instead of what it is now... a ghetto women's basketball leauge.

And furthermore, does the PGA explicitly exclude women?

But who says that it is a men's league? It's the PGA, not MPGA...it's just a league of the best golfers on earth...if she is one of of the best golfers on earth, she should be playing. However, at this time, I believe she is not good enough...but that's why she has to go through qualifying.

She is ranked 2nd in the official women's ranking.

I completely agree and am fine with their being two associations. However, you will not find a single feminist that would agree with what you just wrote.

That doesn't say a lot when she can't win a tournament.

That's a bogus ranking. It's a new ranking system, and Wie has played very few tournaments.
Once she plays a lot of tourneys, it will start to even out.
