Michelle Bachmann gave a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition event in Los Angeles and said the following:

I am convinced in my heart and in my mind that if the United States fails to stand with Israel, that is the end of the United States . . . [W]e have to show that we are inextricably entwined, that as a nation we have been blessed because of our relationship with Israel, and if we reject Israel, then there is a curse that comes into play.

Now let's rewind the clock back to a sermon given by Rev. Jeremiah Wright where he said the following:

The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes three-strike laws and wants them to sing God Bless America. No! No No! God damn America for killing innocent people. God damn America for threatening citizens as less than humans. God damn America as long as she tries to act like she is God and supreme.

Let's summarize:

Michelle: "there is a curse that comes into play"
Jeremiah: "God Damn America"

Somebody explain to me how these statements are different? Will there be the same outrage aginst Bachmann? Anyone bothered by a US Congressperson saying America will be cursed?

I'm not bothered at all. I think we would be cursed by God if we didn't allow idiots to elect such idiots to congress. It is up to the voters to reject her butt. If they do not, she speaks also for them as it should be.

I wish all you fucking idiots would understand that folk have a right and a duty to say what they believe. I think the person is a fucking loon, but has the right to speak.

Israel is 50% responsible of our economic woes, with their war against the other 50% Muslim nations.

If it weren't for Bush/Cheney spending all of our money on that part of the world, we would have been enjoying the good life we all remember from the Clinton days.

A person believes in dire consequences for not standing up for our principles. For not taking action to do what is right and just. For not opposing our common killers who attack Israel.

The other believes America is the enemy and out to get him.

Who did the American President befriend?

Bachmann is a fruitcake in every sense of the word. Best to just humor the person who gave it to you, thank them for gift, then throw it away after they leave.

Edit: And now that I live in her district, I can vote against her. I'll start the bidding at $100.

Principles? The first and primary job of the government is to protect its own people. Support for other countries comes furthur down the list. In both speeches it says america will be damned/cursed if it doesn't do the right thing. I submit Wright's argument is more valid.

BTW - Bachmann has publicly stated Democrats should be investigated for unamaerican activities. She thinks Dems are the enemy of the country.

Doubt you have any idea who she is except what is spoon fed to you on the froth in the mouth far left bombsites. Honestly this is a house rep from MN and the left is absolutely insane over her. They will plow millions into her competitior this year because she is religious. You'd think with all the children she helped raise the left would be celebrating her as a shining example of their it takes a village attitude.

Does that "protect its own people" lead you to isolationism? I'm not sure where else you'd go with such an argument.

I don't know Bachmann or what else she has said. When presented with the topic at hand your assertion of Reverend Wright is absurd.

Let us say, for sake of argument, that curse and damned both mean harm to us. Here we have two people, one who forewarns of harm, and another who is actually doing the harming. One who forewarns of curses and one who actively damns us.
