I did a brake job on my in-law's car last month, and noticed the tires were pretty worn. When I informed them of this, they said the tires were purchased only a year or so ago. I told him to look into getting them pro-rated, because the rears were done!

The tire dealer told him there was no warranty on the treadlife, because they were high performance tires. I told him I'd check to see if that was even possible. My search at Tire Rack for Michelins for his car, does seem to bare this out:Holy crap, he spent like $125.00 each for those tires! WTF? :frown:

If they truly were high performance tires, the rubber would be very soft on them. This makes them wear down very quickly.

You're lucky to get 30K out of a decent set of high performance tires.

Which model were they specifically?

Why would high performance (soft rubber) tires have warranty? People buy high performance tires and then rag on them every time they're off a stoplight. If you don't then you really have no business buying high performacne tires to begin with.

Why would you buy soft compound high performance tires for your damn daily driver Avalon??

Oh..and performance tires almost never have a treadwear warranty.

Yea, why would you get performance for the Avalon anyhow ?
Why not just get All Seasons ? Be glad the tires were only 125/peice. :p Some performance goes for 160+

I called and asked specifically which model tire he got, but the car is not at home at the moment. I merely searched Tire Rack for all Michelin's rated for their car, which brought up that result. They've always bought Michelins, because of their reputation, and I don't blame him there. The car was sold with H rated tires, so that's what he replaced them with. Every single tire in that search result. has the BS no tread life warranty. His fault for not checking, but WTF ever heard of such a thing?

I recommended getting the BFGoodrich Traction T/A H, which is H rated, has a 60,000 mile warranty, and better specs than the Michelins in all categories. That's what I just put on my wife's car, and they're superb! I just want to shame this tire dealer into cutting them a deal on replacements for the POS Michelins they sold him.

Try the Yokohama AVID H4 Touring, those have been pretty good so far for my family's vehicles

Nice suggestion, but the BFGs are rated higher where it counts, in the snow and wet traction. That's ultra critical here in Northeast Ohio, and they're in the hills on the edge of the snow belt.

Just called their Tire Dealer, which is now Tire Kingdom. They wanted $90.00 for the BFGs. I asked if they would match Sears $80.00 sale price, and he said they would. However, he can't seem to find any in stock in the warehouse they order from. I asked how much they would charge to mount, balance, and add valve stems to a set if I brought them in myself, and he said the same price as if I bought them there, which is $11.00 each. Cool! Tire Rack can get them to my in-laws for only $300.00 shipped and no tax. Only $44.00 to mount and balance them, makes for a very decent deal. Too bad he got so thoroughly hosed by Michelin/Mueller Tire.

My car has Continental Ultra High Perf tires, but unlike your buddy's Avalon, my car actually benefits from super sticky tires.
