This is totally silly...
This whole republican candidate for president dog and pony show.
You'd think by the watching the news media that Obama is toast and the tea baggers control everything.
Me thinkest not.
Running as a republican for president against Obama in 2012 is like picking up dog poo. Someones got to do it...

Interesting observations at the iOwa state fair.........
Political booths, republican & democrat.
Democrat booth had a small crowd of maybe 20-25 people.
Republican booth, not one single person. And the three republican booth attenders looked bored, depressed and nearly suicidal.

Then we came upon the famous glass jug balloting.
Several huge glass jugs on a table, each with the names of every candidate running, including Obama.
The sign said "drop a quarter in the jug of the candidate you support".
Bachmann's jug had maybe $12-$15 of quarters. Perry's even less, and so on...
Obama's glass jug? More than half full with not only quarters but bills.
I'd guess maybe $200- $300 worth in that nearly full glass jug with the name Obama written across it.

Lets face it... The media is totally bored to death with this election. They want and try to blow every thing out of proportion to make their story. They act like Bachmann is actually sane and mentally stable. Mitt Romney has a rats chance in hell to even touch Obama in 2012.
And Perry?......
He "MIGHT" distract republicans attention for maybe 10 -14 days tops.
Then it will be back to HoHummm...

When in every poll, the republicans running for president all come in second to "someone else" or "anyone else", well... face it.
Not only will Obama easily win re election, republicans might as well rent a good movie, chill, and kick back until 2016.

While the media and republicans in congress would have us believing the tea baggers run the entire country, out in the REAL WORLD they might represent more like 10% of the voting public.
So lets cut the silliness when it comes to Bachmann winning straw polls, or Perry entering a race. None of this matters beyond giving the news media something to do while they really wish they all were somewhere else.

And by the way... Perry just blew it by entering the race he will never win.
Not in 2012. And come 2016, he will have that "loser" branded to put up with. The same plague Mitt suffers and will always suffer from.
I have to hand it to GW Bush. At least he was wise enough to wait until the 2000 when the playing field was a bit more level. Unlike Mitt, Perry, and all the others in this cycle.
Republicans are just running some political circus, while the media plays the pipe organ.

What is it with Republican women that makes them put the dumbest examples of their gender forward as candidates? Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and Christine "I am not a witch" O'Donnell are embarrassments to the XX chromosome. I swear, the only reason any of them opens her mouth is to change feet.

If Bachmann is the Repugnican candidate, she'll guarantee even Democrats who are thoroughly dissatisfied and disappointed with Obama will campaign aggressively and vote for him.

You can be sure that I will be one of them...Well, except the "campaign" part.
I don't volunteer my services for free.

In terms of actual news, Pawlenty dropped out of the 2012 GOP POTUS race this morning.

Not surprising. He was getting no traction despite spending a considerable amount of resources in Iowa. Essentially, it looks to me like a Romney vs Perry race.

Of the two, I think Romney has the better chance to win against Obama, but I don't think either of them has much of a chance to win.

I and everyone else in this country would vote for a Republican if they can field a reasonable right-center candidate. I am not sure what the fucking problem is.

Is everyone who pursues a career in Gov lately just an extremist or extremely odd?

The problem is that the Republican Party has moved so far to the right that a right-center candidate looks like a socialist to them. As for "everyone else in this country" voting for a Republican, no. The Republican Party is an utter disgrace. Any candidate that would choose to associate with that party will not get my vote.

mizzou hit the nail on the head. Republicans and independents don't like the direction of the country and don't like Obama by a wide margin. They would gladly vote for someone "normal", if such a candidate was available. As it stands, everyone I've seen so far is very flawed in one form or another.

Any candidate that would choose to associate with that party will not get my vote.

Ah, so you're in favor of a one party ruling class. That's nice.

Nice projection there. I would gladly welcome the liberal/labor party to balance the right wing Dems. The fascist Republican Party can drop into the ashbin of histroy.

If Obama is re-elected we will get two years of impeachment talk (Fast and Furious). Not good for the country. Another term for Obama is a real bad idea for this nation.

Obama will not be reelected. You can quote me on that.

And I'm sure someone who gives a sh8 about your opinion will, just to remind you how wrong you were... IF you can find anyone gives a sh8 about your opinion.

At least if Bachmann wins he is replaced with a hot looking red head.

I agree with you most of the time, but if you think Bachmann's hot, your taste is in your ass. :hmm:

First, the House would have to find grounds for impeachment. That assumes Republican retards hold onto the majority, which is questionable, at best.

Then, the Senate would have to try Obama on whatever charges the House actually passed. That assumes Republican retards regain the majority in the Senate, which is at least as questionable.

Hell! They couldn't find the will to charge the Bushwhackos for their very real crimes, including the murder of every troop who died in their war of lies in Iraq, and torture and other crimes against humanity. And that's before you get to their criminal mishandling of the economy. Who do you think squandered a budget surplus, gave us the deficits and tanked the economy by selling us out to the Wall Street robber barons in the first place?

And you'd vote for retarded, bigoted jackoffs who would do more of the same?

Regardless of how bad you think another Obama term would be, NO current Republican running for President is worth jack sh8.

With this economy, it's a bold statement to make... unless the teatards push someone like bachman thru the primary.

Bachmann does terrible against Obama. If the republicans want to win they better not pick Bachmann. All you have to do is look at how she does in polls with independents.

I actually rather Bachmann win the GOP primary than Romney or Perry.

I rather have Obama in there than have another false small-government war-mongerer republican.

Let's see how confident you are in Obama. If he gets reelected, I will publicly admit I was wrong, then stop posting here. If he loses, you do the same. Deal?

Women are completely underrepresented among Republicans at the federal level compared to Democrats. In the Senate, 5 our of 47 Republicans are women, while women represent 12 out of 53 Democrats. In the House, 24 out of 242 Republicans are women, compared to 53 out of 193 Democrats. In the Senate, women are about twice as represented among Democrats as Republicans, and in the House it's closer to three times the relative representation. Adding in the Governors evens things out a bit, as 4 out of 29 Republicans are women, compared to only 2 out of 20 Democrats...but it doesn't make up for the Congressional makeup. All in all, 33 out of 318 nationally notable Republicans are women, while 67 out of 266 nationally notable Democrats are.

This has two effects. One is that not only is the pool of potential female Democratic candidates twice as large in real terms, women make up 2.5 times the percentage of the Democratic pool as they do of the Republican one. This means Democratic candidates are more likely to be women (all else being equal), and female candidates are more likely to be Democrats (again, assuming candidates are more or less randomly selected).

The other effect is more of a cause of this gender disparity...the Republican party is not really the party of women. The female vote almost always leans Democratic, and most "women's issues" fall squarely on the left side of the aisle. What's interesting is that women VOTE Republican far more often than female politicians ARE Republican, at least at the national level, which suggests that support for female candidates is more about party affiliation than gender.

All this to say...picking a good female Republican candidate is hard, since there is a smaller pool to work with. And to be honest, it's not clear to me that women can be as successful in the Republican party in general. Both of which might explain something about the candidates you mentioned.

Considering "I don't like the President" isn't a valid reason to impeach him, it sounds more like another period of Republicans having any federal level power is bad for the country. If you really think Republicans would squander their power on partisan bullshit instead of actually solving problems, it seems like Obama might not be the problem here...
