Michael Schumacher offered NASCAR test!

Schu offered NASCAR test.

Michael Schumacher has been offered the chance to test a NASCAR after saying he could not see what attracted former rival Juan Pablo Montoya to the American series.

The retired legend admitted he was bewildered by the appeal of America's most popular form of motorsport following the Colombian's shock defection to the series last year.

"Personally I wouldn't do it," he said at Magny-Cours last July.

"What do you do in NASCAR? What is exciting there? "

"I can't see that, running around on ovals."

But the seven-time world champion has now been given an open invitation to take part in a NASCAR test himself by team owner Ray Evernham in a bid to get him to reconsider his views.

And the American is confident that if Schumacher was to test one of the stock cars he would enjoy the experience.

"I'll put him in a red car, a real good car, any time he wants to come over here and try it," he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.

"A lot has changed in recent years."

"These cars are looked on as much more sophisticated than they used to be."

I think he'd find them technical enough to keep him happy."

Interesting...quite frankly I'd like to see that. I think he should do it. Even if you hate NASCAR it would be quite interesting to see what his opinion of it would be after actually having driven one of those cars.

Up until the time Dale Jr. bump drafts him in a corner at 200 MPH.

There is no way in hell he'd ever race in the series. He'd have to move here not to mention he was being paid over $100 million a year when he was driving for Ferrari.

It would be interesting to see him test one though and hear his opinion after.

oh, maybe the fact that passing can occur on more than just pit road... or that anyone has a shot at winning... i mean, if you're into a parade of precision driving dominated by a handful of teams/drivers then nascar isn't for you.

he'd probably think they were slow and cludgy. which, compared to an F1 car, they are. nascar isn't about the car's capabilities, it's about putting on a good show for the fans. and they do that quite well. scummy needs to come over and watch some races, not drive in cars, to figure out what it's about.

That be like Michael Jordan stooping down from his high as a NBA rock star to go play minor league baseball

Oh wait...

I wouldn't mind seeing it.

And for all the crap that Nascar takes on this board and my own personal distaste for 4 hour races, I give the drivers credit for having skill and mastering the nuances of those cars. I don't think Schumacher or Montoya would just waltz in and dominate the field. Although you could probably pencil them in as top 5 guys at Sears Point and the Glen.

It's funny how you gave a great example of why nascar sucks when you were actually trying to act like its good. And you're 100% right it's not about racing, its about bumping and crashing and putting on a show. Nascar has nothing to do with who finished 1st, it doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is if one racers girlfriend fights another racers wife, thats nascar.

who?

Apparently, he's the Tiger Woods of racing. And apparently, Formula 1 > NASCAR. Just guessing, as I'm way out of my range of knowledge in this area.

Formula One

NASCAR

They two are completely different forms of motor racing.

An F1 car weighs about 1200lbs, makes about 850hp and they produce enough downforce to drive the car upside down at speeds over 150mph.

A stock car weighs about 3000lbs, makes about 800hp (IIRC) although I think they restrict them to much less at the high speed oval tracks and the cars produce very little downforce in comparison to a Formula One car.

I'm with you on all of that, but, "They two are completely different forms of motor racing." So I can't say which type of motor racing is better than the other, or more interesting or entertaining than the other? Keep in mind, I don't know enough about either to say anything like that. But based on my basic knowledge mostly acquired in this thread, I'd say I'd like F1 more than NASCAR.

Not even close. It would be more like Beckam quitting Euro soccer to come to the US soccer league....oh wait.... 😉
