Rockstar Energy Drink Doesn't Want Consumers To Know About Connection To Shock Jock Michael Savage

http://consumerist.com/5283320...ck-jock-michael-savage

"Did you know ultra-conservative talk radio guy Michael Savage has intimate family connections to Rockstar Energy Drink? If lawyers for the company have their way, you wouldn't, because over the past week they've started going after people who have publicized the connection. They managed to get one guy's "Boycott Rockstar" facebook account closed without warning, and threatened him with a business libel lawsuit if he didn't publicly apologize. A gay news website, gaywired.com, has had to publish a partial retraction. None of this changes the fact that Michael Savage's son is listed as the founder and CEO of Rockstar, or that Michael Savage's wife is listed as the director, treasurer, and secretary of both Rockstar and Savage Productions. Or that both companies share the same address."

Haha... I love it when companies act like little children. I thought monster cables was bad but this is really getting out of hand.

This thread went in an ugly direction fast, and didn't start out all that great to begin with. I think it's about run its course, so I'm locking it.

I don't think it was ever a secret that his son was the founder/CEO of Rockstar.

I think I've listened to Savage twice over the past 3 years for a total of maybe half an hour, and I heard him mention his connection to Rockstar energy drink twice. I was wondering what the point of this thread was but then I remembered that liberals on this forum are obsessed with conservative talking heads.

As A Liberal, this Savage fellow is not even on my radar screen, but yes, Limbaugh and some aholes on Fox do bug us, but since they end up hurting the GOP more in the end, its more of an opposition on principle that these idiots are simple using badly fractured logic which is never a social good.

I think if I hear "You're a great American" one more time...I'll puke. And who the hell cares if his son is tied to Rockstar?

Thew few Rockstars I've had really, really suck. And I'm a non-coffee caffeine junkie. Monster is ok, Red bull is where it's at. Rockstar is glorified soda.

What "connection" exactly are you referring to?

Michael Savage is not connected to the business at all, he does not represent the business or act as a spokesman or representative. His son is the founder and CEO of the business.... so what?

The gaywired site had to publish a retraction because they lied about the connection, not because they simply stated the fact that the founder of the company is the son of Michael Savage. That's a public fact and is not being disputed.

Mountain, meet molehill.

I think Michael Savage is an idiot... and I have no doubt that at least some of his listeners are idiots, too. Heck, his son might well be one, himself, given that he co-founded the Paul Revere Society with this father.

But at the end of the day, idiots do have the same right to make a legal living that everyone else does. So who the hell cares?

Apparently Rockstar cares?

Savage is a certifiable nutcase - there's a reason the company knows association with him would be its death knell.

Some of us consider ethical issues in how we spend our money, and avoid supporting people who do bad things with it.

If I had any interest in this product, which I don't, I'd avoid it because of the connection to Savage. Just like not shopping at Wal-Mart, etc.

So don't buy it. I just don't get what the big controversy is supposed to be. I also happen to think that when you get to the point of not wanting to buy anything from any company that is in some way connected to even the relatives of the people we don't like, you're gonna find life starting to get increasingly difficult to live.

Are you boycotting the current administration, or at least the State Department, because Hillary Clinton formerly sat on the board of directors of Wal-Mart? Would you have voted against her if she had won her party's nomination?

There's no right or wrong answer, of course. You are well within your rights to buy what you want to buy and vote for whom you wish to vote and certainly don't need to justify your reasons to me or anyone else. I guess I just don't feel as strongly about this as you might.

I don't drink Rockstar or any other energy drink because I think they're vile; not because Mike Savage's family members are involved in it. Again, I think he's an idiot... But I don't think he's so offensive of one that I'm going to be up nights worrying about whether or not what I drink somehow benefits his family members.

You said you had no idea why people care, I gave you an answer.

I also happen to think that when you get to the point of not wanting to buy anything from any company that is in some way connected to even the relatives of the people we don't like, you're gonna find life starting to get increasingly difficult to live.

That's ok, to a degree; we can have some balance, we can prioritize.

Are you boycotting the current administration, or at least the State Department, because Hillary Clinton formerly sat on the board of directors of Wal-Mart? Would you have voted against her if she had won her party's nomination?

Not only would have, but that was a factor in my supporting Barack Obama over her in the primary.

Had she won the primary, I'd have voted for her over McCain, because he has hundreds of times the negatives she does, in my opinion.

My first choice didn't get nominated. We go with the best choice. (Though I'd like to see ranked voting that lets people vote for their 'first choice').

There's no right or wrong answer, of course. You are well within your rights to buy what you want to buy and vote for whom you wish to vote and certainly don't need to justify your reasons to me or anyone else. I guess I just don't feel as strongly about this as you might.

Actually, I'm happy to say something about it, because to the extent that more people act to support their morals'values by considerig how they spend money, the better off I think society is; while my own spending is one tiny bit, the more who do so, the better, and so by discussing how I do this, it might encourage others.

I don't drink Rockstar or any other energy drink because I think they're vile; not because Mike Savage's family members are involved in it. Again, I think he's an idiot... But I don't think he's so offensive of one that I'm going to be up nights worrying about whether or not what I drink somehow benefits his family members.

The hyperbole about 'up nights' to describe simply not buying a product if you oppose the people your moeny will go to is misleading and pointlessly critical of behaving morally.

It's not all that much trouble to try to avoid the products, and it can do a lot of good.

For example, just yesterday I passed up Campbell's Soup, because the Campbell family has been a leader in the fight to abolish the estate tax that I think is very important for the good of our nation, both for lightening the taxes on most Americans who can less afford them, but also ts effect in reducing oligarchy. Not a big deal to not buy it. In fact, I have occassionaly bought some not long ago, that's the 'balance' I mentioned.
