Some history

He's a model for American Entrepreneurship. Started with next to nothing, and through hard work was able to establish what it is today.

By 2009 over 20,000 Dell employees will be located in India.

Is it just greed? Money greed that makes someone built on free enterprise put as many jobs as one can overseas?

I can't help but have a bad taste in my mouth over this. Am I wrong?

No, it's because all of the people in America want to have better stuff at lower prices. They've done all they can to streamline it here, the next way to keep prices down is to move things overseas.

Of course if that didn't happen this thread would be bitching about Dell's high prices. Quite a pickle, eh?

Suppose you're right ... definitely a pickle.

It's probably survival. If a company doesn't follow the labor market wherever that is, they will be undercut to the point they cannot compete.

The only way those jobs wouldn't have been outsourced would be government regulation. If all computer manufacturers had to play by the same rules, jobs would stay in the US (though the economy would probably tank)

You know when someone puts this disclaimer in front of a post the opposite is probably true.

Ya know, it's kinda ironic.

My parents busted their ass to come to get on the short list (relevant to how many try) of people allowed to come into this country to make opportunities for my sister and I.

NOW... lol, all the opportunities are rising in India like they were in the states back when my parents came over.

Kinda lame. But I am glad that at least humans are getting these jobs instead of robots.

Oh yes, the robots will take over..... it's in bible, so it's true.

Yeah but you and your parents will make more money taking a job here in the US than if they stayed and took the new jobs rising there. :)

i am in favor of offshoring and business process outsourcing in order to save costs. eventually, the american market/laborers will adapt.

can you imagine if companies insisted that all factory/manufacturing jobs remained in the US? we'd be paying ridiculous money.

India will be a leader in technology (not to say they will be bigger than the US) but they will be in manufacturing.

What's his other option? Dell can do what it did or go out of business when someone else does it.

If you don't like it complain to the politicians and hope they put some kind of tarriffs on labor overseas (good luck enforcing it).

Meanwhile continue to enjoy your <$350 DELL PC w/ 17" LCD Monitor deal.

lol, I said PROBABLY true, I don't know what the guy is thinking. But the fact si companies like dell send jobs to India because most Americans lack discipline and ask for too much money. Indians work BETTER for LESS.

Business plain and simple. If you want to pay 2x as much on every purchase you make from Dell then sure, Mike will put the jobs back in the USA. The respective prices they offer are based off their business model and locating jobs in India is just one piece of that pie, albeit a large piece.
