Best-selling author Michael Crichton has died of cancer, his public relations firm said.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Michael Crichton, a best-selling author, died in Los Angeles on Tuesday, his public relations firm said in a news release.

He "died unexpectedly," the release said, "after a courageous and private battle against cancer."

OMG.
One of my favorite writers. He was an advocate against the global warming hysteria, testified in congress on the issue, wrote a novel (State of Fear) based on it, etc. He also created the show ER.

Many of his novels bordered on scifi, but he made it believable, made it seem possible in reality.
