Yep.

Anyone else disappointed with this movie? I was expecting much more, but it felt a little flat to me.

He didn't know. He saw the horse in the field which was nearly identical to an illustration in the book his kid recommended. He got out and stared at it for a while.

Apparently, the book didn't originally have that illustration. The director added the illustration later because test audiences couldn't quite figure out why he stepped out of the car. (The director's explanation was 'pure dumb luck'. Just a lucky sonofabitch.)

This is what I recollect from an IMDb thread I read a while ago.

My opinion is that it is a well-made movie with good performances (Wilkinson in particular) and fine direction. It just won't be memorable in the long run. Five years from now, if someone posts a thread "Hey guys, what are some good legal dramas/thrillers", it might take a while before someone mentions this movie.

But otherwise, it is good entertainment and pretty satisfying. Some of the scenes - the opening monologue, the murder scene, Clooney's "I'm a janitor" spiel - were really well done.

Great little movie but I think the stellar reviews had people expecting a lot. IMO, it's excellent but not must-see (if that makes any sense).

Makes sense. I agree the performances were good, but I just never really felt that attached to anyone, nor did I really care about the story that much. I was stunned it received so many nominations.

That would make sense too, but it changes the meaning of that scene quite a bit for me, since the book seemed to tie things together.

well i thought he got out because it represented freedom to him - how he desperately wanted to get out (e.g. see his spiel at the end when he records the general counsel lady at u north).

i liked the movie because clayton's anger towards the end was really compelling. it was the first movie in a long time where i felt the anger that i had actually manifested itself through the actors in the movie.

yeah, i was not really impressed

Yeah. I remember seeing commercials, then no commercials, then "Back in theaters" commercials. I thought, WOW second run in theaters, gotta check this out.

It was a "Meh" at best.

I thought it was good, a little slow resulting in one friend falling asleep during the movie.
Overall the actors did a great job, but avoiding the explosion because of dumb luck is just kinda dumb.

Wasn't one of the horses limping, implying the guy in the opening scene hit the horse instead of a person?

Rented the HD DVD via BBonline. It was decent. Good acting, but the trailers made the film seem like there was more cat and mouse like chase scenes. I thought the scene were the two 'janitors' working for the chemical company did the hit on the old lawyer was cool.

That's what i thought. Wasn't he retracing that guys route who allegedly hit a pedestrian to check out the scene of the accident? And when he got out at the described section of the road where it supposedly happened he noticed the horses. I figured he went to check the horses to see it it was one of them his Firm's Client hit instead of a man.

A deleted scene on the DVD had a scene between Michael Clayton and the lawyer he got to come in the middle of the night. It was mentioned that the person he hit was a waiter or something at a restaurant and had gotten previously busted for pot.

Yet another movie with a thoroughly boring plot, shot out of order to dress it up and make it look more interesting than it really is. Reminds me of Babel.

It was a pretty good movie, I had fairly low expectations going in even though the movie was getting lots of critical praise.

What I didn't quite understand is why they pronounced Clayton dead, just cause they found his watch/other personal belongings in the car? Seems like to pronounce him dead they'd need at least a body part or two :p
