Anyone else disappointed with this movie? I was expecting much more, but it felt a little flat to me.

He didn't know. He saw the horse in the field which was nearly identical to an illustration in the book his kid recommended. He got out and stared at it for a while.

My opinion is that it is a well-made movie with good performances (Wilkinson in particular) and fine direction. It just won't be memorable in the long run. Five years from now, if someone posts a thread "Hey guys, what are some good legal dramas/thrillers", it might take a while before someone mentions this movie.
But otherwise, it is good entertainment and pretty satisfying. Some of the scenes - the opening monologue, the murder scene, Clooney's "I'm a janitor" spiel - were really well done.
Great little movie but I think the stellar reviews had people expecting a lot. IMO, it's excellent but not must-see (if that makes any sense).

Apparently, the book didn't originally have that illustration. The director added the illustration later because test audiences couldn't quite figure out why he stepped out of the car. (The director's explanation was 'pure dumb luck'. Just a lucky sonofabitch.)
This is what I recollect from an IMDb thread I read a while ago.

How did he know to get out of the car before it blew up?
That's what i thought. Wasn't he retracing that guys route who allegedly hit a pedestrian to check out the scene of the accident? And when he got out at the described section of the road where it supposedly happened he noticed the horses. I figured he went to check the horses to see it it was one of them his Firm's Client hit instead of a man.Originally posted by: KLin
Wasn't one of the horses limping, implying the guy in the opening scene hit the horse instead of a person?
