Mice: Microsoft vs. Logitech

Right now I have a Logitech mouse but the right mouse button is kinda broken (its really hard to click). I was thinking of getting either the MX500 or Intellimouse 4.0. I play Counter-Strike and surf the net, ocassional photoshop/3ds max. I've heard that the microsoft one is more comfortable and it has that side scrolling wheel. What do you guys think?

I agree. I personally just like the feel of Logitech mice more between the two. If you really want to get the king of all rodents, check out http://www.razerzone.com. These are simply amazing, but not fior everyone. I really like the accuracy on mine, but it is a little bit too big for me to really enjoy it. I wish they made them just a bit smaller, and I would ditch my Logitech dual optical in a second.

I own and love an Intellimouse 3.0. Of course, this is my second one in three years, which is pretty crappy.

Basically, the only thing that prevents me from really considering a Logitech mouse is that they don't seem to sell their high-end mice WITH cords, which is a must for me. I can't stand any sort of lag and I don't want to replace batteries.

You know, you should invent a mouse that sits on a charger, so you never replace the batteries. I bet you'd make a million dollars. Like that guy who invented the pet rock.

I agree with the slight lag issue on wireless, but the MX510 is one hell of a mouse. Tracks very well and has a nice solid feel to it. The MS mice just feel too cheap to me...but it's all preference.

I also haven't tried the MX510's drivers, so I can't really tell you if they are any better than previous versions. I go to a lot of lans and they don't allow driver installs so I just got used to the default xp driver w/ the mouse accel reg fix.

Ok, so I can buy a wireless mouse with a charger. Without mentioning the extra time and space that takes, let me ask you a question. Did you read the part about not being able to stand any sort of mouse lag? Regardless of your experiences, I've always noticed the lag of a wireless mouse.

have u tried the mx700? theres no lag. thats why its so popular. but about corded high end, thats what the mx 510 is, its got the highest megapix rating of all of em.. i think its 5.8 vs 4.7 of the normal mx mice. as for batteries, it comes with rechargable nihms. replacable to boot. they last a couple days on a charge and they come with the charger base, u don't even need to take em out. nihm doens't have memory to boot, so charge at will. nihms are cheap too. beats the cr@p outa old wireless mice where u had to actually keep swapping out batteries each time, i had a couple pairs of those.

and either way, best to use http://www.cshyde.com/Excess%20Inv%20Sale.htm mouse tape and the c4 pad:) slick as hell and preserves those unreplacable mice feet.

Thanks for the advice. Maybe I'll try one of those out after my Intellimouse dies. It shouldn't be TOO long now... hehehe

I thought there was quite noticeable lag when I tried one out(try to stop mid spin and target), and the battery life on them leaves something to be desired(12 hour gaming stretches can be compromised). Ended up picking up the MX500- tracks nice but it's too small for me(it isn't small compared to most mice, but it is smaller then ideal for my hands).

As someone poonted out earlier, the new Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 is 800dpi. I just hooked one up yesterday and ergonomically it fits my hand better than my 3.0a. You need to install intellipoint 5.0 in order to achieve ultra-smooth scrolling and to allow the tilt wheel to work in most applications. Let me stress that this mouse is smoother than my Logitech MX700. I also don't have to worry about frequent charging. ;)

I need to play UT2K3 ith this mouse before I officially give it two thumbs up and my highest praise.

MS eats the battery. logitech will give you far more use according to the review i did.

i have three mx duo's and they are great! not a problem. i've also have four mouseman cordless optical and they still work great too.

I've got an MX500 that I like mostly because of the feel. The only complaint I have it that it sometimes goes nuts on my black felt mouse pad. Go left and it goes right, then up, then down or does nothing. Anyone else ever have this happen? I'm using a solid black Kingston pad made of some kind of fabric which I figured would be fine.

MX500, 510 or 310.
MS ones are uncomfortable and not as durable. I've een through three Intellimice, and I'm now sng a $12 Logitech and it has held up fine, where the MS ones couldn't put up ith me.

I'm a five-star notebook fan myself, but you could ry it on the bare table and see if it does it...

someone already did that.. forgot the link
he modded a mousepad to automatically charge his wireless mouse
