Mic works, then doesnt work, whats wrong?

Installed a new comp for my buddy which includes:

DFI Lanparty NF3 250GB (Latest nForce drivers)
A64 3400+
BFG 6800 OC Latest Drivers
1024mb OCZ Value Ram

XP Pro Service Pack 2

We just bought a brand new Plantronic Audio 90 head set for him comp, the sound works but the mic doesnt work. However, it WAS working at the beginning but now it doesnt work. The wires are in the correct places, and it was working until he just restarted his comp.
