Mic problems

I recently got a new logitech cheap headset but i realised yesterdasy the microfone isnt working properly. My headset uses two plugs, one for the sound and one for the microfone, coloured black n pink respectively. Now I onticed on CS my mic was getting insane static and was unhearable. I have tried turning up volume in settings e.t.c but its still ******. I tried unplugging + replugging, even into other sockets but to no avail. I then pluggfed my old headset's micrfone (which definately works) and that wasnt working properly too, so it could either be the microfone socket (which I doubt) or some settings on my computer.

Any help?

Go to the sound properties and try checking the mute box on the microphone.

In addition to advice Jiggz gave you, also (assuming you have Windows XP)
open:

Start\All Programs\Accessories\Entertainment\Volume Control
make sure "Line In is not muted, and that it's volume is turned up.

Also, you may (or may not) have another sound mixer application. For example, I have NVIDIA Mixer App. You might have something similar.

Make sure your mixer app microphone control(s) are turned on.

I don't know the solution for the static sound problem you mention.
A possibility: Double check that the lead wire from the mic hookup on your case is properly connected to its mobo header, and also to the mic port on the case.

Also make sure your microphone isn't physically muted. The Logitech headsets have mute switched/buttons that are easily switched to mute without the user noticing.
