Mic prob in Win 98

I decided to try and get a net phone to work but some where along the line something is not working with my mic. I plug it in and I can hear the mic over my speakers which I think is kind of strange but it won't record anything in windows sound recorded. Is there a setting that I'm missing or some other weird quirk that I need to change. I know the mic is good because I plugged in to another comp to test that. The sound card I have is a TBS Montego II by Turtle Beach Systems. So any assistance from the rock stars of this board would be greatly appreciated.

try this: go to volume control -> options -> properties -> recording, make sure the mic is checked. as far as i remember, that drove me crazy before.
