mic isn't picked up

ok, so I have a microphone, and it is plugged in, but it isn't recognized. I can hear it through the speakers if I unmute it in the playback options, but I can't hear anything, nor does it recordo anything in the record section. I am using an Audigy 2 and Win XP x64. Any thoughts?

(yes it is not mutued in the recording section, and I have put in the newest software/drivers
 
in the creative mixer there is a imput section, find the mic on it and push the volume up on it. By defualt it ends up either all the way down or off.
