Mic doesn't work

OK i just built my first system everything is pretty much ok except this. I'm using a logitech headset and i plugged directly into the back of my motherboard (A8N-SLI Deluxe) and I've installed the Realtech drivers and software, I did a cord test thingy in the software and it detects a mic. but when i try and use it i cant! i tried it on my old comp and it works fine... whats wrong here?!
 
In windows XP control panel in the sound and audio devices program use the test hardware button in the voice tab. That ususally wakes up the drivers if installed correctly. As noted above, be sure the mic is not muted.
