The car is obviously totaled. Why on earth would anyone spend thousands of dollars to repair and upgrade a totaled 90-93 Miata that even in good condition is only worth a few thousand? Why not just buy a newer one? Can the car ever be made right again? I think this guy is nuts.

If that happened to my car I'd buy a newer one with fewer miles and try to move over the majority of my modifications.

I had an employee once that said he was gonna chop the front a certain year crx and put a different year on, then chop the back and put a different year on
I said, why don't you just get a different year??

Cuz people are stupid sometimes.

Because he wants a riced out Miata and this way it's on the insurance company's dime.

You're probably right, however I doubt the insurance company gave him more than 2 grand for the car.

If he had a replacement clause in his insurance, the possibility exists that he could have purchased the totalled car back and pocketed fair market value less the price a scrap yard would sell it for...

I'm too lazy to do the math, but it should be $2k-$3k.

Then again, if his wife and kids died in it...= tuns of mods.

EDIT: seriously though, that is a lot to spend for sentimental reasons. I am still debating spending the $800 I need to fix mine...

Yea, b/c most people want to keep the car their loved ones were killed in. That's a thinker

Thanks. What did you want me to do. Explain why he wanted to fix up a miata. I don't know. Ask him.

You're just mad because people laugh at your Miata.

what if he just picked it up for $50 and did all the work himself? Sounds like a fun project. Rebuilding a ricer doesn't seem any worse than turning a ricer into a "ferrari" or whatever people like to do with their cars.

I'm surprised Anandtechers would question why someone would fix the Miata. If I had the time and resources I'd do it. I would prefer to work on a different car, but I'd do it none the less.

i bet there's a few things you like doing that many people here think are a waste of time and money
