Yadada yadayada. . .

now that that is over with.

I will be moving down to Miami, well, more or less Homestead in about 2 years or so. Any MIA locals that can suggest some gated apartment complexs in the area?

I grew up in Miami, but don't live there now so I can't offer any information. That being said, why do you want to move to Homestead?

Im going to school at Miami Dade College for their ATC-CTI program. Ill be travelling between Homestead and Kendall, so anywhere in between.

for kid you're coming down to UM? You may want to look into the Coral Gables area or on campus sharing an apt would be cheaper.

For the OP..... homestead is relatively cheap but all real estate has been climbing down here the last few years. Kendall does have it's relatively cheap areas. You may want to look around in Perine (sp) it's like 20min from homestead. I live in Hialeah which would be a pain to commute to the Kendall campus but MDC does have a few campuses around...

Maybe even Broward community college would be an option, feel free to PM me for more specifics.

my cousin's going ot be moving down there before me, and he was looking at coral gables

i plan on coming down there after having some money, and want to be closer to south beach. if my cousin get's a big place, i can get a hole in the wall somewhere near, and just share our places between us

and yea, UM might be the school i go to if i do law school, or even finishing my masters in comp sci

he's going to UM though

MDC is one of the FAA's accredited ATC schools, hence I am going there. But thanks for the information darkamulets. Definately greatly appreciated. My fiancee will be looking for a teaching job, she has a BA in English and working on her MA right now. So, her finding a job shouldnt be too bad, just want her to be teaching a good area (which may be rare in S. FL). Nevertheless, Ill have to check out those areas you suggested, thanks man.

surreal, you are in for a, well, surreal experience when you move here. I don't know where you're moving from, but the cost of housing and rentals here is out of control. In fact, south Florida has become the numero uno housing market in the country right now.
If you want to live anywhere safe within Miami, you damn well better be a Trust Fund baby. Or, you can live in el barrio.
Someone mentioned Coral Gables. One of the most expensive areas of all. Starter homes that need major renovations are selling in days at $400K.
Of course, the housing resale boom has spilled over to rentals, too. You'll need to go far south to find anything affordable. May I suggest Havana?

Haha, I guess I better buy now and rent it out until I get down there in two years. Apartment rates on Apartment Guide's website doesnt seem too outrageous compared to my native Atlanta. But who knows, thanks for the information.
