I tell you this game is driving me nuts. I know that there are a few endings to it and that one of them will suck a$$. I am playing through it for the first time and dont want to screw it up so I am trying not to kill any enemy soldiers and am restarting every time that I am discovered. This is making the game really frustrating. For those of you how have finished it more that once, is being this careful worth it or should I have a more gun ho approach. By the way, I just borrowed if from my brother so I cant keep it long enough to finish it more than once and I dont want a horrible ending.

I'm not aware of multiple endings either...

Btw, if you can get through the entire game without alerting the enemy once, wow. I don't think I could do that on any skill level. Well maybe, but it would take a long ass time. I seriously doubt this has any bearing on how the game ends though.

<< Who said there were multiple endings? >>

Yeah, as far as I know, there is only one ending. By doing well (not alerting or killing enemies, not using many rations, etc..) you can get a good rating, but that's about it. The game gives you a clear code after you beat it, and you can submit it online to receive your rating.

Actually I just presumed this since the previous MG did. If not it would be OK. If it does not have multiple endings are there any "special" features that are awarded to players with low kill counts, few saves and what not?

EDIT I should have read before posting this. Thanks for the info..

On the Hard and Extreme difficulties, you can set it so that you automatically get a Game Over if you're discovered by the enemy. It's really tough, but doable.

Dunno bout the endings but I definetely wun play for the 2nd time. It's great only for the first 10 hours gameplay, the end part suk @$$. The talking crap and cutscene is too long and like a movie....and a sentence I heard in the game " You've been playing this game for long, dun you have anything else to do?" .......something like this....piss me off........:|

You can unlock secret items by obtaining dog tags from the enemy soldiers. Pretty much every normal guard (not the ones called in for back-up) has a dog tag. Collect enough of these and you'll unlock secret items. Not much in terms of special features that I've found so far.

I playing normal and every time Im discovered I not only restart but I do so without using the continue option. I is pretty frustrating. I am now "freezing" the bombs on the Big Shell and it has taken me two solid days to get there. I swear I thing that I have lost some hair, does Wal Mart have Rogaine?

There's only one ending, and it sucks balls.

A "Thanks for playing. The End." Screen would have been MUCH better and would have made me much less pissed off. You'll see. ;)

And you're just wasting your time. You do not get a bonus for not being discovered.

Whoever told you that is having a great time at your expense.

If you want to do cool stuff, collect all the dog tags for one.

Other neat easter eggs can be found here: gamefaqs

*edit*

Ok, you DO get a better rating for less alerts, less saves, less damage taken, etc. but you don't actually get anything out of it. Still a waste of time IMO. Did I mention the ending sucks balls?

Wow, you're trying to do this the first time through the game? That's very impressive!.. and a lot of restarts. :) You must be saving a lot too, huh? The game does count the number of saves, also.

Yep, I agree. :p I won't spoil anything, but pretty much the entire last hour or so of the game sucks.

No, Im not saving very often. I think that I have saved about 5-6 times so far. Maybe more maybe less. I wanted to make sure that the ending I got was not going to be stupid (like the one that the chick died in on the PSx verison). Now that I got this far I think I might try to finish in the same manner. I guess if not for a cool ending its gonna be for $hit$ and giggiles.

I'd recommend you go ahead and shoot the crap out of every soldier, save every 10 minutes, and get the game out of there as soon as you can. The last 2 hours are fun but only if you skip every single codec converstion. Ugh.

I honestly would have been happier if the game ended right after the tanker. Raiden is a tool.

Hey, I'm hearing a lot of negativity here. I haven't played the game yet, but I want to buy it, but some of these comments are making me think twice. Is it good? Besides some of the gripes, do you guys like the game?

Dude I think Raiden is pretty cool. Snake could beat his arse though. I hope this is not some evil ploy to slowly faze Snake out of the future Metal Gears, the game would not be the same without him.

IMO it's still an awesome game. I love it, and I've played through it multiple times now. Definitely worth buying (for me), despite my negative comments. It's only the last portion of the game I'm not happy with, and you'll know what I mean if and when you play it.. it feels incomplete and doesn't really fit in. But besides that, the game is awesome. :)

Update here.....

I went home and played for about five hours last night. I managed to defuse the bombs on the Big Shell and hide from Fortune before laying down some smack on Fata$$ (or whatever his name was) without saving. I say I tried about 10-15 times before doing it. Judging by that, I predict I should finish the game right before my 75th birthday. Well, back to work.

The game itself (i.e. the gameplay, aesthetics, etc..) is good if not amazing. It would have been even better if Raiden wasn't such a shallow, naive, moronic asshat, and if his whiny g/f would just SHUT UP for one freaking minute instead of trying to bring up relationship issues which are not only completely irrelevant to the story and make no sense.

I think right after Part I, Hideo ran out of ideas and energy and took massive doses of absinthe, E, K, G, tweek, and ritalin to finish the game. The schizophrenic crack whore on the corner could have cranked out a more coherent story than this drivel.

But yeah, it's DEFINITELY worth playing just because the game will blow your mind. Do yourself a favor and SKIP every codec conversation though and ignore the plot. Really.

Oh, and the ending sucks.
