So many countires have travel warnings to Mexico yet people keep playing the "its safe in the tourist areas..." and "It would never happen to me..."
Hope they catch the dirt bags and hope the women are ok.

Damn, I used to visit my Dad there every year as a kid (he lived just outside of Acapulco). It never felt unsafe to me, but what a freaking mess most of Mexico is now.

Spent a week at a resort on the strip between san jose del cabo and cab san lucas. All the resorts are beautiful, but the country is a complete dump. We had a rental car and went to cabo most days. There is like a 8 block touristy area with bars and a mall, all that crap. Outside of that is run down huts, poverty, nothingness.

Unknown/stranger rape like this is actually very low in the US. Most rapes fall under the Date rape type (you know the person type thing).

Again, rare event and I would not have an issue visiting Mexico. I've been to Cancun, Mexico City and some of the border cities. Hope to visit the Mayan ruins some day.

Acapulco is on the drug trail -

Cancun & Cabos are perfectly safe and completely off the Drug trafficking path -

And please - do stay away, prices will come down and I'll be able to go 3X a year rather than 2.
