According to sportscenter it will be announced wed. morning that Doug Mientkiewicz will be traded for the mets for minor leaguers

I dont know about this deal, leaves a lot to be desired in our lineup, but at least he is good defensivly

Reyes
Matsui
Beltran
Piazza
Floyd
Wright
Mientkiewicz
Cameron

ugh...at least rumors say that there is not enough backing by the owners to trade for Sosa...interesting if they go after magglio

It's his to decide what happens to it, AFAIK, unless they sue him which would be somewhat less of a PR nightmare now that he's left town and the Sox. Best of luck to him, I woulda done the same thing.

Yea..the reports I've read say that its most certainly for low class A prospect Ian Bladergroen and cash for Doug M (or was that the BoSox giving the Mets some cash??). Good backup move by Minaya. Its hard to say whether Blade will turn out to be a good major leaguer since he's just in class A. The Mets needed a real defensive minded first baseman in the worst way and now it looks like they'll get one.

Now the Mets need some bullpen and outfield help and I dont see both Floyd and Cameron staying on the team. I think one will go. The Mets are holding their winter caravan event in manhattan for the media and fans and both Cammy and Floyd no showed. I think Cameron is rehabbing though for his injury..wonder whats Floyd's excuse. Piazza is getting married so he obviously wont be there.

I like the defensive firstbaseman...this is def. going to be our best defensive infield since we went to the WS.

Just really feel we are missing a power hitter, piazza isnt what he once was and he will have to sit a lot going back to C everyday. Also where is Beltran going to bat? In houston I believe he really prefered batting 2nd over 3rd, but I cant imagine them not starting with reyes/matsui....I dunno, I like the team defensivily, just think we are missing 1 bat

Seo and Heilman will go the bullpenn?

starters being
Pedro
Glavine
Benson
Traschel
Zambrano

While Mientkiewicz is no Carlos Delgado offensively, he did have a few decent .300 BA seasons in Minny. And although he lacks HR power, he did have quite a few 2Bs. I'm thinking he's like Dave Magadan with a little less BA, more power and a better glove. Not too bad of a pickup. Maybe he'll give the Mets the WS ball and some part of NY can have the last laugh after all. :p

EDIT: Then again, he put up those stats in the Metrodome, so maybe those stats should be scaled down?
