Metroid Prime: Hunters has a strange control scheme...

It's been fun so far and the controls work much better than I expected but my hands started to feel numb after about an hour.

Yeah after a while my right hand gets tired/sore. Still a really interesting set-up... works much better than I expected. Also took about 2 minutes to get used to, if that.

Works better than I thought... A LOT better, but the game sucks man. Metroid is such a sick series, but they dropped the ball on this. The other hunter character designs look ridiculous!

I haven't played a Metroid game since Super Metroid. I wanted to get New Super Mario Bros. or Mario 64 but they weren't in stock. I figured since it was cheap and it's Metroid month I might as well grab this instead. I've had fun so far but I feel a bit like I'm stuck on rails and I can't see anything at a distance. I find myself shooting at colored blob #3 too often.

I would really like to see a DS Metroid that goes back to the side-scroller design. The GBA ones were pretty good - so with the DS's added graphic and sound capabilities, it could be another Super Metroid!

Can you strafe in this series yet (when not locked onto a target)? I couldn't play the first Prime game because of this. I know, I know... my stupid loss. I tried, I really did. It was the biggest control scheme hangup I've ever experienced in my history of playing video games.

You can strafe in hunters just fine. This is probably the best control scheme I've used for a FPS on a console.

tryin playing it if you are left handed. the game is virtually unplayable for me because of this.

edit: ah nm I know what youre talking about now. 🙁

I had trouble with the demo that came with the DS when it first came out. I heard they revamped the controls before final release. Can you describe them?

They have an option for to swap everything for left handed people. I'm not left handed but it seems like it'd be just as easy to play.

Basically you move (forward, back, strafe) with the d-pad and drag the stylus around the screen to mouse look. The shoulder button fires. You tap the screen to jump. There's also a couple of spots on the screen you tap to switch weapons/visors and turn into the morph ball. My biggest gripe is that I occasionally drag over those spots while looking around and shooting. ABXY and the left shoulder button don't really do anything unless you switch to left handed mode then they move/fire.
