I bought this on Christmas, played the first level, got freaked out for some reason and just took it back up today.

This game is impressive graphically of course but it's lacking that personal touch. Otherwise WTF is up with not being able to use the 'C' stick?

I thought this was a linear shooting game but it's more of a first person RPG which reminds me of a mix of some shooter and Starfox adventures.

Is this one of those impossible to beat games? I don't like backtracking either. Any tips/pro's/con's?

EDIT: This game is amazing. It feels like an action/adventure game done in first person. I wish they gave a third person option :/. The graphics are among the best I have seen.

I think only Zelda TP has topped it in the sense that there are better heat effects, better water, particle effects, weather, etc. Also Starfox Adventures graphics are on par. But both games have a kiddy cartoon style graphics whereas this is the real deal.

I still fawn over Samus' glinting suit and extreme attention to detail! Not to mention the extremely high framerates that never slow down and the dynamics b/w jumping, morphing to rollerball and shooting all done seamlessly. I could only imagine what the next 80% brings.

And then I also have PT2 so I hope that delivers. Then I will get Part 3 which I know will deliver.

It's an FPS, but it's more about the Adventure elements than the point and shoot elements

I didn't like the game. I found it boring, and it gave me a headache (literally, some games do that) playing it.

I kind of wish the Metroid Prime series was third person. I own, completed, and enjoyed Metroid Prime, but it's weird playing Metroid as an FPS. I haven't played the sequel or the DS title, and probably never will. Super Metroid > *

C-stick is used for weapon selection once you get more weapons.
There is backtracking, as you get new weapons/upgrades you will go back to places where you couldn't get through before. Like other metroid games.
My tip would be to use the map. It is not too difficult of a game, I remember it was 15 hours or so to finish.

ya but they are full of crap. They say they made samus realistic by making her auto look slow and stuff, but in the wii version she's zipping around, throwing that cannon around like it's a FPS. What happened to emphasis on action/adventure?

Nintendo started its own genre with Prime. First person adventure. As for backtracking, if you dont like it, this game probably isnt for you.

It is a great game however.

I know I was playing it the other day and I got to the point where I kill the beehive in the beginning. It's harder than I thought, being the second miniboss fight. I am not stuck so far, but it looks like I might be in the future. It's not just finding doors, but you have to find passages far up high and use morphball, missiles and charge for certain doors which makes it harder to know if you are going the right way, or to check out another lead...

Part of the reason I didn't play much of the first and didn't bother with the second on the gamecube. That and mostly because I got sick playing the game IDK if it was the textures or what. That,Prey and older Doom games was the only ones that made me sick. Very odd

what a cool game I already got the jump boots. It was by accident I got the boost ball and wanted to find the secret half pipe but figured who cares? And why would I go back to the ship for anyways? I got stuck and then figured why not just try for fun and now I think I can advance to the parts that I could never go to. I also need the spiderball upgrade.

I liked the game, but I kind of wished they had stuck with 2d. The game was amazing though, the ambiance was terrific.

I don't like FPS games on consoles, but found Metroid decent. I might try it out again.

From all the previews, it seems like MP3 is going to be the Killer App for the Wii so far.

There are great 2D games still being made. It's unfortunate when a game is made in 3D just because it is expected these days. Not saying that is the case with Metroid Prime, because I don't care for the series myself. But there is nothing wrong with 2 dimensions.

I keep waiting for them to come up with a 2D Castlevania or Metroid sequel with highly stylized visuals. If you think 2D games can't look gorgeous check out Little Big Planet on the PS3. Konami could just go and overhaul the graphics of Symphony of the Night and it'd sell a ton, let alone a new game in the series. There's a reason why the GBA/DS 2D Metroids and Castlevanias were so popular.

no it's not that, it's just 3d gives more elements. I think they made a prince of persia in 2d for xbox360. I think Castlevania is in 2d nowdays?

ON A SIDE NOTE: I just beat the rock boss guy and got my spiderball and then didn't save it and died :(. BAH!

I'm not really sure what you mean about more elements, as I don't really see that there is anything that Prime was able to do that the others didn't. Well, I suppose you could argue that it has become very immersive (and thats because of the FPS view). Gameplay wise, Prime just managed to transfer the classic 2D gameplay into 3D, more specifically a first person view (platforming in first person is the big feat that it pulled off). Don't get me wrong its an amazing achievement that they were able to make the transition, but I wouldn't say that Prime is actually better just because its 3D.

The last two console (not handheld) Castlevania's have been 3D, and not very good ones at that. Konami is too intent on forcing it into 3D that they lose what made them great games to begin with. I would certainly think that it would be possible, but somehow they've managed to not pull it off. I actually liked the 3D N64 Castlevania, but it was more of a survivor horror game than a Castlevania game.

Did you have any trouble with Thardus? I remember there were quite a few people who had a lot of trouble with him.

I hope that some day Nintendo does decide to push things in the audio/visual presentation. I can only imagine what Metroid or Zelda with graphics/audio of games like Gears of War would be like. Yes, gameplay matters most, but anyone who says presentation doesn't matter is lying. A game with good gameplay is great, but a game with good gameplay and has the looks/sound to back it up is better.

of course. I guess MP3 will have to do for now. MP was WAY ahead of it's time for visuals. Is Thardus the rock boss? He's easy. Easier than the boss with the light beams. I just use infared visors and that's it. I figured out you basically have to find your way in order of the question marks that randomly appear and tell you your next step.

Yeah, that's Thardus. I couldn't understand how people were having such a hard time with him either, but I remember quite a few people saying it took them several tries.

The thing that impresses the most with Prime's presentation is the subtleties. The way liquid splatters and slides off of the visor for instance. The music is very well done and fitting too, I just wish it was a bit higher quality (fully orchestrated/instrumentalized wouldn't hurt either). Graphically, I think it'd benefit from much better texturing and AA/AF, although it looks far from bad in those areas. Thats part of what bothers me so much about the Wii, series like Zelda and Metroid don't get the treatment I think is fitting for them.

Man, I feel like playing this game again, but don't have a Gamecube anymore and have no plans of getting a Wii anytime soon. I played the second one but couldn't really get into it for some reason so I didn't play very far into it. I've only seen a few things on the third (a fight with Ridley which looked cool), but I'm not that interested, mostly because I feel a little let down that it seems more of the same. I'm sure it will be very good if not great, but still just kinda disappointed.

go out and buy a GC! IT's $40 at GS! I got farther. Nothing too hard in this game it's all pretty easy. If you can beat X2 and XIII nothing is hard.

I already got the ice cannon and found myself back in the beginning where the ship landed. I find it to be like one HUGE level where as there's multiple levels. No loading it's done all in game. The graphics are very good. Things like water could have been better, but then you would have framerate problems when there are lots of enemies on screen. I think the framerates are near 60 always and dip down once in a while when you blast the hell out of everything. Her suit looks incredible. Everything is modeled like the fingers and all. Most games didn't even have modeled fingers. I only wish it had a third person view.

MP is a fantastic game, one of the best console FPS adventure games, if not THE best. The sequel was good too, but for some reason I liked the first MP a bit more.
