Metro 2033 preview vid

Does look kool.... as far as a translation goes i managed to pick out the words 'mutants' and 'nulcear winter' 😀

correct me if I am wrong but I believe I heard xbox360 in there so it looks like they will get it too. too bad we dont have a general gaming forum on here.

This game is using hardware physx. I hope it's well done. The physx enabled games I own - Batman, Mirror's Edge, Cryostasis, and Darkest of Days all have great physx effects, but Dark Void's physx (and I haven't played it) looked distracting and very much like an afterthought.

well just think how sluggish STALKER Clear Sky is on max DX10 settings and imagine adding hardware physx. unless they have magically optimized that xray engine then this game is going to require more gpu power than any other game ever made by a long shot.

Unlike Stalker, it's being developed concurrently for consoles, so I imagine there have been some design decisions along the way that were introduced in order for the game to run properly on console GPU's.

the game engine does a nice job with the lighting and the textures. I'd like to see some daytime renders though. too bad its dx9.

I thought it was a DX11 game using the updated X-Ray engine. http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,704409/Metro-2033-New-trailer-of-the-DirectX-11-game/News/

Anyways, I hope it is better than STALKER. I will have a spare GTX260 sometime in March (I Hope) and would be curious to see a DX11 game + Phsyx running the 260 for support.
the 4A engine is based on the x-ray engine but its highly modified and shares very little with the original. surely you arent thinking that you will be running DX11 on your DX10 gtx260 setup.

The article does say it has hardware tessellation, so that is why I thought it was DX11. Maybe not ground up DX11, but using some of the features of DX11. Yeah I guess I wasn't thinking straight about the 260. For some reason I thought it was OK if it was only serving as dedicated Phsyx. My mistake.

if it is dx11, it's not using the tessellation or normal maps that well. most of the scenes in the video looked pretty old school as far as environment LOD to me. plenty of basic cube objects with hard edges and no bump/normal mapping to soften the spec.
