I got them on steams sales. Still haven't finished them, but they have a neat atmosphere.

"best fps" ...

mob hitboxes changing with the animations (and zero movement inertia), coupled with having some of the worst weapons ever made doesn't make for a "best of".

they were first person adventure / storytelling games, and tbh, far inferior to stalker.

That's a little strong. Both have their strong points and weak points. If you want more open world and RPG, then Stalker is your thing. Stalker has more of a sense of dread and desolation but is buggy. If you want classic fast paced horror/shooter, with a bit of "sneaking" then Metro is your bag. It just has quirky combat/weapons.

From the video:

Both games now run at a "rock-solid" 60fps
All Last Light DLC included, around 10 hours of gameplay (7 SP missions) + weapons and a few other modes.
Two new playstyles added to Redux, Spartan (close to the Last Light experience) & Survival (super-hard, resource management is key, more aggressive enemies, slower swap and reload, etc.)
Ranger mode is back and in both games. Harder, and strips away HUD and UI. (Means you have to check your ammo count on the gun and have to check your watch for filter timers and stealth).
Metro 2033 has been completely overhauled.
Loading screens removed in areas, new areas added, and entire scenarios revamped.
Metro 2033 adds customization from Last Light, along with mask wipe, better gunplay, and better stealth.
Levels have been re-textured and re-built with new geometry.
Time of day has been updated, weather effects added, and new skyboxes added.
Global Illumination is now used.
Better AI patterns and hit detection.
As for weapons, you're playing a game set in a post apocalyptic setting, so what do you expect? A lot of people who played the game probably didn't even know that they could use Military grade ammo (which acts as currency) in exchange of the regular ammo to inflict a lot more damage on enemies..

I cannot stress enough that this Redux is a TOTAL makeover, and not just some HD remake..

To back up my assertion, they are dropping 32 bit support for these games and they will be 64 bit only.

i must admit the graphics in metro were astounding. obviously the makers went for as much realism as they could, and the stealth sections were quite good in metro 2.

and yes stalker was completely broken until the fans fixed it. but metro has some things about it that dont make it look like a shooter to me, like event mobs (entities spawned and then despawned just to freak you out) and too many "new chapter, story takes control, you lose all your guns n ammo" moments which make it in my view more of an adventure game.

tbh it reminded me of Alone In The Dark

I'm trying to see if they've improved the PC at all ? Seems just console improvements.

edit: actually 2033 seems worth getting, big improvements there. I'll get both anyways because 4A is worth throwing money at as one of the few developers who push out high quality PC games.

PC version has been improved graphically with the addition of global illumination and terrain tessellation (plus some others that they didn't name) plus performance optimizations.

I believe the PhysX SDK may have been updated to 3.xx as well, but I haven't found any confirmation. If it has been updated, you can expect better performance and more varied PhysX effects..

Agree here. Though I really enjoyed Metro Last Light, more than Metro 2033.

Weapons are terrible and enemies, particularly the animal type and swamp creatures are atrociously incorporated into even a decent gameplay element. Some of these parts felt like trying to cut paper with dull scissors.

I will probably pickup the redux.

my GTX 460 crawls even at minimum settings.

The redux is supposed to have much better optimizations, so you might be able to play it this time with acceptable performance..

Or, even better, you could you know, upgrade your hardware :)

Wish these had a more interesting health system, they look great aside from the completely generic health regeneration. It's especially odd in what otherwise looks like a survival kind game with resource management.

I'll probably buy 2033 Redux but no point in getting Last light's, literally got the GOTY edition a few months ago.

I was under the assumption that the Redux was a single pack that included both games and their DLC? There's two separate Reduxes?

2033 redux should be interesting, last light redux seems pointless on the PC, considering what they have done on the consoles

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-vs-metro-redux

last light redux should be just a free patch on the PC!?

Last Light redux on PC is a tougher sell no doubt, but I don't think it's pointless.. It will look and run better due to global illumination and terrain tessellation (and better physics and A.I), plus various performance enhancements..

They couldn't have patched the game, as the redux completely drops 32 bit in favor of 64 bit so it looks like they did a major update to the engine itself..

I already own these. I don't think I can justify re-buying these for prettier graphics. But looks cool though.

They were vague about the PC improvements other than 4k support, I'm betting there's no real improvement there which makes getting them, even at 50% off, not very tempting.

They're good games though, anyone who likes a well crafted on rails singleplayer FPS will love these.

i guess i'd spend $20 for the both of them, but not more. i'll just wait until they come down in price on some steam sale.

Ofc this is assuming they are a rebuild of the original, as Carfax says, not just new textures.
