Method vs Function ?

A function returns a value, methods don't.

Might be the technical definition, but everyone I know uses them interchangibily. If this is a test question or something it's REALLY nitpicking.

i always thought they were the same.

i thought when programming in C/C++, they were functions.

but when programming in java, they were methods.

I always classified them this way:

function = return value
procedure = don't return value
method = function or procedure that belongs to an object
I do believe arcain is correct. Procedure is often also referred to as a subroutine.

Replies like this mean you should get away from your computer for a while.
