I know about the MS bulletin that XP needs SP1 patch to see anything over 137 gb

MS Linky

Problem is my copy of XP Pro is first edition. I usually install this first, then apply the patches SP1 & SP2 from other CD's.

But...... I'll end up with an OS on a different drive first, then have to partition another to recognize the rest of the storage?

Sounds hoky.

Anyone know how to get around this besides purchasing a new copy of XP with SP2 already built in?

My drive is 320gb SATA II.

Please excuse my inexperience.

thanks for your help.

I saw a sticky flying around here somewhere about making a slipstreamed cd. I did a quick google search. I think I read this artical in the past but did not re-read it and not sure of its simplicity. You can search this forum or google. There are many publications on doing this.

You can simply get an updated Win XP cd from Microsoft for $10+ s/h assuming you can prove authenticity.

Why not just download from the website your going to have to update anyway?

Will the slipstreamed cd apply the SP2 patches at the initial install? I want to avoid making multiple partitions just to get the succeeding SP1 & 2 patches on.

I may just do the MS update for $10. Seems easier.

slipstreaming a cd is actually quite easy and it installs SP2 from the getgo. its just like a SP2 cd from microsoft.

I followed the instructions on the link.

Nicely written out. Way easy.

It worked like a charm.

Upon initial install, it recognized all the capacity of both my fatty 320 and 500 gb drives.

Thanks for the help.

Best slipstreaming tool i've ever used is NLite it's superb walks u through the whole process down to burning cd. You can even add those drivers to save [F6] to install raid/sata drivers.
