Although, Metallica was and still is one of my favorite bands,
I haven't heard or listened to them for a long time.
Last news I heard was that James is still going through rehab after one another.

Well, I wanted to catch up what they're up to nowadays and it seems like a lot of things had happened.

Can anyone tell me what's new(or old) in past 7 years?
(And what's this movie?)

Go watch their documentary about recording St. Anger if you want to see them all cry and whine a lot.

Latest news: They booted Bob Rock and will be recording their next album with Rick Rubin.

Bob Rock's gone
Rob Trujillo is the bass player now
They're going to release a new album within the next year
The documentary you asked about is called Some Kind of Monster

That's about it

Jason didn't like the direction of the band, and he started his own band which tanked. Bob Rock just sucks.

Jason left because James wouldn't let him do any side projects.

Bob Rock. Maybe they thought it was time for a change or maybe the production of St. Anger was so horrid that they decided to try a different producer. Hopefully Rubin will get some real creativity out of them...doubtful though.

I lost all respect for them back during the Napster brouhaha, and I no longer have an interest in their music nor their lives. They are dead to me.

I just can't see them releasing a decent album. Hetfield's vocals are blown out. He doesn't have decent vocals for singing now.
