Metallica got on Napster's case for letting Napster's peeps trade Metallica songs. What does Napster do? They ban all the users who are putting Metallica CD's up for ripping. Fair enough (even though I think that sux).

I had all of two Metallica songs before those users were banned. So... I had to go elsewhere for Metallica MP3's.

I tried something recently: looking for Metallica on Napster, just to see if I'd get a warning notice, see nothing, get banned, or something like that. What do I see? people still trading Metallica songs.

What's this? I downloaded two more. :D *yay* But why has Napster banned those who have whole CD's for ripping but left the people who've already ripped the songs and have those songs up for trade now too?? I'm not asking to get banned, but I'm just curious. Gotta go. Looks like I've got some more downloading to do... ;)

I think the way it works is they search every once in a while to see who has Metellaica Songs and put them on a list to be banned. Then they get banned. I dunno, I could be wrong about that. So you could be getting banned(or not) and just not know yet!?

Anyone?

Well, I haven't been banned, but I can take all of my four Metallica songs off of my sharing list and just keep downloading them. :) I'll probably just use http://www.scour.com to find stuff. I like how fast Napster is, how it works, and how it looks... but sheesh... it's almost worth not using it.

Thats what I would do,, as soon as it finished Dling I would just move it into another directory so it doesn't show up on Napster. That would be the safest thing to do. And if you aren't gonna use Napster much anyways,, just dl and if you get banned,, oh well..:)

Question: Is it illegal to record something off the radio?

Answer: This is kinda fuzzy ground. A radio company is relaying signals that ANYONE can tune in and listen to, without paying one dime. Therefore, if someone were to, say record a radio transmission, or borrow a copy of a radio transmission, how could this be pirating or stealing? I can see how recording a radio song can be considered not pirating, especially if the recorder does not make a profit by sharing songs that they heard off a free and open source (radio).

excuse me?
That's a PM or a FS/T issue, man.

Anyway, hell, I'm considering going out this weekend to Tower Records or something and buying one of every Metallica album that I can get my hands on. If they don't have one available, I can always go to a friend of mine in Idaho. He's got an extremely rare tape called "Metallica Garage days: RE- revisited".

:D

ok, here's a legal stretch, and it's not like I'm using it as my defense or anything, but since songs are played for free on the radio, allowing anyone to make a copy, couldnt I just record the radio version then dl the mp3 version since I now "own" another format of the song, and converting formats of what you own is legal?

Just wondering...

Man, I was kidding. Chef used to be my roommate. I'm just messing with him.

Actually, it's too bad that I don't have admin rights to this computer like I did my old one...

I could leave this on all the time, making it into a FTP server.

me has lots o' music. :)
Actually, I wouldn't do that anyway. Just trade annonymously. ;)
